Hi, I'm just wondering if any of you lovely ladies that have bony mets( in particular hip/femur) have had surgery to stabilise? I have an ortho appointment tomorrow and that's what we will be discussing. Kind regards anne

Hi Anne I have bone mets now for 5 years. Most recent area was in the top of the femur an area they call the Trochanter. My oncologist got an orthopedic specialist to look at the scans and his decision was that the cancer was in dense bone so he felt that a pin to stabilize the leg and hip was not necessary at this time. Thank goodness. So I'm back on chemo after being on Aromison which was not working for me after 2 years. Hope you have good news. Wendy

Hi @"wendy h 67", I see the ortho docs every 3 months. I wasn't due to see them again until April but they've brought the appointment ahead. I asked my oncologist why? And they want to talk about surgery. My mets are in the trochanter, pelvis. As I'm still working, I think they trying to prevent a pathological fracture. Anyway, I'll find out tomorrow what's the plan. Cheersanne

Best wishes for today. I haven't actually seen a orthopaedic specialist as yet. Sometimes I wonder why as I have so many bone mets , but I guess if another problem arises , my oncologist will refer me. All the best. Wendy

Just an update! Stabilising surgery is a success (according to the doctors) I'm home now & taking it easy! Doing the exercises etc.

Hi Anne , I think that sounds like the better plan. I have chemo on that day so I will be thinking of you. My next lot of scans are in April, so I hoping that my femur area has not deteriorated . My tumor markers have come down since last scans , so keeping my fingers crossed. Best wishes Wendy

I spoke again with the orthopaedic surgeon yesterday afternoon, we've decided to go ahead with the surgery & keep radiation for later. Which is what I intended in the first place. Operation is booked for the 28th March

Hi Anne was just wondering , can you still have surgery at a later time, if you have radiation therapy ? It must be a worrying time for you . I just hope everything goes well for you.
