- Giovanna_BCNAMemberHello @Silba
The following information will help explain the use of hormone therapy for breast cancer.
https://www.bcna.org.au/metastatic-breast-cancer/treatment/hormone-therapy/ - SisterMember@silba As I understand it, in a nutshell, if you're pre-menopausal you get Tamoxifen as it impacts on the oestrogen production from the ovaries. The AIs can't cope with ovarian oestrogen - they go for the production from other glands. Other ladies, please correct (or explain it more fully) if I'm wrong.
- AnonymousTamoxifen has increased my risk of uterine cancer. It causes some cancer and prevents others. I could only tolerate it for a year.
- SilbaMemberI have mets and have started on Tamoxifen to slow down the mets on my hip while I have radio on my chest and left lymph nodes, then they'll do radio on the hip , side effects have been horrible, hot flushes, sweats , nausea and additional pain all over my body, obviously Dr's see these as sides effects as minimal compared to having cancer reoccur, but once it has already spread why can they just recommend you take one of the other drugs, or is it standard procedure to issue Tamoxifen first, any thoughts ????( ps chemo resistant and already had bilateral mastectomy )
- arpieMember@"Annie C" found this one - Yep, I reckon that is about right for the size of it to 'work'!! :(
- Patti_JMember@arpie. My oncologist didn't ever suggest any longer than 5 years on Tamoxifen.
- KattykitMember@arpie, unfortunately yes, I'm now on Ribociclib and letrozole which I'm tolerating fairly well.
- arpieMemberBummer. You didn't consider continuing on Tamoxifen @"Patti J" - did they not suggest that? How long ago were you on Tamoxifen? They still seem to think that being on Tamoxifen makes you bullet proof! :(
Oh bummer - that is a shocker, @Kattykit :( Fuck me - but this disease just keeps on giving - excuse the French! :( So you were on Tamoxifen when you were diagnosed with mets?
RP - KattykitMemberI put up with the awful side effects for 4 yrs, I didn't get the chance to change at 5 yrs because I got mets before then.
- Patti_JMemberYes @arpie. I took one or two Arimidex tablets. They gave me migraines. So I stopped taking them.
