Aromatase inhibitors
I’ve started reading about this treatment as it has been recommended for me . One article firmly stated chocolate , alcohol and coffee were not recommended. Is that what you all understand?? I mean that seems quite drastic if it’s for ten years 😳
Do you think say a wine once a week would be ok? And I just love my one fresh brewed coffee in the morning. What are you doing if you are on this treatment ? I’d really love to hear your advice . Xx

- MarakeshMemberHahaha I agree with you @Artferret
those are my pleasures in life too. And cheese. Love my cheese ❤️❤️❤️
My Review is on October 2 so I’m sure I’ll get the full lowdown then .
Interestingly he has also told me if I’m planning to fly then just stop taking for 6 weeks before to avoid the dvt risk . He also made it clear I could switch from one to another if experiencing bad side effects and that I can take other meds to combat some side effects . So I know I have options .
Thanks for your input everyone 😊 - ArtferretMember@Marakesh Coffee, chocolate and alcohol! Life would be sad without those. I still have my cappuccino, chocolate now and again but i have cut my alcohol intake drastically but that was my choice. No one said i had to cut out those delicious morsels. And as Kate said grapefruit is a big no no. But then i found out grapefruit reacts adversely with a lot of medications. If ever in doubt ask your medical team.
- kmakmMember@Marakesh Yes, it's quite possible (though not definitive) that you will have some hot flushes again. My oncologist said to me the other day that I have less oestrogen than an 80yo because of the Letrozole. Its almost complete stripping out from your body will affect several areas.
From healthdirect.gov.au: - MarakeshMemberThanks @arpie I’m also wondering , if a woman has has already gone through full menopause as I have ( did HRT for five years but then stopped that about five years ago) , am i still likely to experience hot flushes etc? I honestly didn’t think I had much oestrogen in my system to get rid of to be honest . It was an eye opener for me that fat cells produce a bit 😐.
- arpieMemberSounds good to me, @Marakesh
My mantra has always been - everything in moderation, nothing to excess (unless ukulele or kayak fishing!) LOL - MarakeshMemberYes I suppose there’s lots of info out there that needs to be sorted through . I was just curious if anyone had been advised to avoid by their doctors and it seems not .
Im in the camp where a coffee each day is part of my lifestyle and I enjoy it. I can manage not having alcohol every night . I just love a champagne and orange with family on weekends though . Plus I love my hot chocolate and the odd chocolate ❤️❤️
Im glad to hear none of these are a particular No no 😀 - AfraserMemberIt's quite a reasonable site as far as I can see, but in many cases there are arguments for and against - milk for example. While warning against raw, unhomogenised and full cream milk, it doesn't say anything (as far as I can see) about low fat milk. Which those of us who are conscious of lipids in full cream milk, but worried about bone density, may select. Then again it's an American site, and fat, sugar and salt looms!! Tends towards if there is any doubt at all, avoid. Which may be somewhat alarmist. Avocados for example - if you are feeding rats high volumes of avocado oil, it may cause something, but that does not translate to half an avocado, once a week, in a human.
- MarakeshMemberOne of the sites was foodforbreastcancer.com
- arpieMemberI still have a couple of wines a day - so I guess only time will tell ....
I have a tiny bit of chocolate now & then (not an addict) and have the odd Mocha (not full coffee.)
There are so many sites out there with whacky info ...... you still need quality of life whilst going thru this treatment - so 'in small quantities' should be fine! - kmakmMemberHi Marakesh. The only food/drink that you mustn't consume on Letrozole is grapefruit. There's no issue with coffee, chocolate or alcohol. From where did you get this information?
