- iserbrownMemberWe are all individual in treatments. We may present the same but that's about it! I had my pathology from biopsy confirmed and Prof wanted to operate the next day. I had to negotiate time and bought 4 days where I didn't have time to think as I had to prepare for a work handover and pack a bag, shop et cetera
Once home and into some sort of routine I used Coles Online for grocery shopping and that made such a big difference!
For me it was left mastectomy, sentinel node removal and two guards and pathology results in a couple of days, whilst I was still in hospital.
As I say, we are all different and I can understand your desire to have timelines to allow control of yourself and your life in general however we are very much at the hands of the medical team and results from each test before the next move is decided.
Take a deep breath, do some nesting at home, you know, shopping, stocking up and organising help and before you know where you are it will be here! Take care - melclarityMemberHmmm my radiotherapy at 1st diagnosis was determined by pathology of the breast tissue, my nodes weren't touched, I think it depends, Radiotherapy is not always based on the nodes its part of it. 2nd diagnosis 4yrs later had sentinel node done and nodes were clear but as Id had radio, you cannot have it twice.
- Willow26Memberthanks it was one question I didn't ask. I find there is always one question that I miss. I plan to talk to the breast care nurse. There are plans to remove ovaries soon as well and I will ask if maybe it can be done together if it turns out there is need for ax dis.
- ZoffielMemberIt's been a while for me, but when I had a sentinel node done at Peter Mac, they whipped it straight down to pathology, had a look and made a decision about the clearance then and there. That process may have changed. Very good question to ask your surgeon.
Thing is, Willow, how this stuff progresses is very much determined by the facilities at the hospital. Up here in the sticks things are done very differently from the major centres. I gather there are variations even within the one facility depending on the way the specialist likes to do things or case loads at the time.
Get in contact and ask. I'd say the answer would be hours rather than days. Ask them. Marg xx - primekMemberI think between 2 and 3 weeks after initial and axillary clearance would be maximum if needed. Radiotherapy is determined by node number but usually above 3. Some err on side of caution.
However...just ride the rollercoaster and take each bend as it comes. No point worrying about time frames and treatment that will or will not happen until you know results. ..it will just send you crazy.
Once you have your final pathology then a path will be set for you. It does get a little easier mentally after that. Take care. Kath x
