Oh My aching bones

Good afternoon ladies  I've just noticed that I am often back on site in winter ..... I don't like winter and it feels like it has been raining for weeks and weeks (I am in WA) ... I come back when I am feeling down... I am often down in winter!! It may sound horrible but it helps reading the comments - there is often someone worse off than you, or I just remember the dark days in the beginning or through treatment and it helps.   I did it and I'm still here.  The sun will shine soon.
At the moment I am really tired again, the last of the side effects still hanging on or thyroid playing up??  My feet suck, I ache.  Gave up on trying to exercise but decided to get in garden daily for at least 1/2 an hour - up until it started raining I was doing well.  I can prune, weed etc fairly easily but get out the spade and I am stuffed very quickly!!  I still ache the next day, arms legs depending on what I was doing - my body just doesn't seem to get used to it.  After just a couple of weeks off I feel like I'm back to square one.  Plus don't know what I've done but my right shoulder and arm is aching.  Started doing some stretching exercises last week as I feel very fluidy, maybe that is it.  Wait and see.  On a positive I have finally booked myself in for my pap smear (0nly 6 mnths late), dentist check up (more now as half my front tooth fell out!!) Eye check (done.. my sight has gone downhill quickly lately), I so hate any check ups now - I started stressing because of the eye check??  If I could kick myself I would.

  • Not sure if this helpful but I live in a very cold area . Winter for me is made easier with long sleeve wool thermals and Explorer socks .We have 700g wool quilts but recently discovered coral fleece blankets from Target which all my family now swear by.It doesn't get away from being housebound by miserable weather or grey overcast days but warmth seems to help mitigate against that feeling of being chilled deep into my bones . Oh and don't forget the ugg boots - mine are leather outside and with an outdoor sole.Roll on summer but in the meantime I may have to put on some summer music to lift my spirits.
  • Hi Hit - Have you had your bone density checked ? I'm to start hormone therapy but am osteoporotic so need a bone strengthener probably 6 monthly Prolia injections.I always increase my Vitamin D in Winter and find it helps. SAD - great acronym- I also started started a gentle exercise class called Stretch and Balance to try to keep things moving and find it easier to do with company. Winter gets a bit tiresome in August - it does get inside your bones and also your soul .Re eyesight went to eye specialist today and was advised Tamoxifen has eyesight side effects.

  • Hi @HIT I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling the pain. Thanks @Afraser it's nice some times to give it a real condition now I know why I ache to the centre of my bones.
  • @Hit I did similiar to you finally had the energy to garden and then my shoulder hurt the next couple of days.
I cant blame my problem on gardening but developed a motor cuff shoulder injury shortly after. Many months on I am healing. My injury happened straight after radiation and the suggestion was having my arms above my head crossed may have contributed ..who knows.
Not being active is definitely not on.... but finding the balance between too much or too little activity is proving a challenge for me.
  • Oh I get it. My arthritic joints are all playing up with putting on some kgs again and the colder weather. Much less enthused to do anything other than curl up and watch netflex when not working. I get down every winter and I've just realised reading your post that of course I am down this winter just like any other only this is my second winter following diagnosis. The last one was during treatment. ..so obviously I was down then too! Ha. I hate tbat every darn twinge you think ...ooh is it cancer back ...and then have to talk logically to myself that I hate all these twinges before cancer too. I'm going to try to increase my exercise again and thought I'd just start with 10 mins walking and see if that helps lift my mood. Exercise works better than antidepressants for most people tbe latest research says...definitely worth a shot. Kath x
  • Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is real - we can get depressed and down because of lack of light in short winter days. Just one more little thing......!
