Hi, I am 43. Diagnosed in November, lumpectomy and sentinel node in December which came back positive. Waiting for full lymph removal in a few weeks and then wait and see.

I love reading everyone's comments. You all seem so positive and have been through so much.  I feel scared and unsure and admire you all so much. Thanks to everyone for giving so much support.

  • hi kylie, yes i too am ready to shave my hair. i have hats and a wig ready... so it wont be long.. i can relate to you in so many ways. i too struggle to fill in my days. at the moment i m feeling really well and am walking swimming and going places.... and eating well . next week after my 2nd treatment it may not be the same! i had several lymph nodes taken out from under my arm and have to do the massage and physio to hopefully get my flexibility back to normal.

i am going to a support group once a fortnight. i have a couple of friends who have been in the same situation as me and are now well and healthy. i also found cancer connect.. through the cancer council a good support. they put you in touch with a volunteer and they will give you a call..

good luck with all your questions... great idea

    love jenny

  • Hi again Jenny, thanks for replying, it is good to have a 'chat' to someone in the same situation.

I had just moved down to the Southern Highlands in October from the Central Coast. I found my breast cancer 3 weeks later. It has been hard, although I have more family here I had left my nice house, job and friends to try and start again down here. Then all this happened, some days I don't think I am coping at all. I have joined a support group but I struggle to fill my days and have too much time to think.

Off to onco tomorrow, I have a huge list of questions written down.

Just got my head shaved on Sunday. Cried. I have bought quite a few hats, scarves and one wig.  I don't know if I will wear the wig but felt secure getting it. I figure I have cancer so I am not going to pretend I don't to make other people more comfortable. Hence I bought about 10 different hats!

I started chemo on the 15th so we are only a couple of days apart.  Are you doing FEC D? Hope you are feeling ok.

    Hugs, Kylie xxx

  • hi kylie, my sentiments exactly!! im feeling ok.. little bit of a loss of appetite.. and energy.. but just the same as you, taking each day as it comes. i think the next thing for us is the hair loss. i have short hair anyway, but not sure how i will go wearing a scarf, cap or wig. what about you?? im not working as im on sick leave.. but am missing the busy-ness and company of work.. my children have grown up and left home so its just my husband and i at home. how are you filling in your days? im going to a support meeting tonight... i wasnt sure i would participate in this, but im actually looking forward to going. then away for a couple of days... just like you say, taking each day as it comes.. big hug back to you, jenny

  • Hi Jenny, we started chemo in the same week also! I am doing 6 weeks FEC D.  Lots of nauseau and feeling blah but going ok.  I ended up with 3/26 positive nodes with extranodal spread and ca in lymphatic fluid. Sometimes I find it all doesn't seem real, taking one day at a time and trying not to expect to much of myself.  Hope you are feeling ok.  Hugs, Kylie

  • Thanks again everyone,

I am 'looking forward' to this operation, waiting for the surgeon's Christmas break has been difficult.

I have found out how important it is to be positive, but also to be prepared for answers you don't want. I was given lots of 'positive re-inforcement' by several (4) medicos (ie: grade 1, caught early) and so was totally unprepared to find it in my lymph nodes. From now on I will ask for all possibilities, not best case scenario.

When I had my surgery a satellite node was found, also cancer.  I would love to know anyone elses experience with this, it was taken out during surgery but I can't find out much info on these.

    regards, Kylie

  • Hi Kato, good luck with your up coming surgery. I agree with Leonie about accepting that 2012 will be a bit of a lost year. Someone said that to me about last year, and it seems huge when you stand before it, but when you look back you realise that the time flies, even if you aren't having fun. Like you, I was diagnosed in late November, the year before you, and had the lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy in early December, only to return to have a mastectomy and more nodes removed in late December. ( I came out of hospital on Christmas day 2010 ). My lost year was 2011. I have had 4 rounds of chemo, opted for a second mastectomy in September, insertion of bilateral tissue expanders, and on Wednesday I will have the expanders removed and silicone implants inserted. For me it was important to try and contain all of this to 2011, so that I could look forward to 2012 being a good year and my new normal. The time has gone quickly, has certainly been " interesting", and I have met some of the most wonderful, strong and inspiring women along the way. I have become almost addicted to this site, where there is so much information and support from those who have been there before us. I wish you well for your next surgery and what ever treatment will follow. Please take advantage of this site and feel free to ask any question you might have. Love Chris xx

  • Hi kato I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis...it is miserable which ever way you look at it! I was diagnosed in oct 2011 & had a mastectomy 10 days later, i am 37. But i was very fortunate as my sentinal node biopsy came back negative. It seems like yesterday I had my surgery & had to wait for my results...I think that is one of the hardest parts..,the not knowing. Like Leonie said, once you know what you are dealing with and what the plan is, you won't feel so unsure. Goodluck for your upcoming lymph surgery & results. We know how scared you are, but know that we are all here to listen. Love & best wishes Sam xo
