Hormone therapy side effects and Endorphins
I read on the blog of terrible side effects many on hormone therapy endure.Three major ones seem to be depression, body aches/ pain and insomnia
Many years ago I was fascinated by a group of young blokes seemingly addicted to daily jogging. I was told exercise releases a hormone called endorphins of similar chemical structure to morphine and they enjoyed a “runners high” from jogging.I also noted their ability to deal with pressure seemed to be better possibly due to this hormone.
I also remember a friend suffering post natal depression having exercise as part of her treatment.
I have had a bit of a look today online and there is much about endorphins and their impact on these side effects.
It may not help all but it may help some to explore this option.I think my management of Letrozole is helped by daily walking for an hour.It also helps with my weight which is not entirely the result of Letrozole.
I would never have described myself as an advocate of exercise but I am now. I also found it hard starting out as the terrain near home can be steep and I was far from fit.I also had back pain but found I could walk thru it.
Just a thought.

- AfraserMemberGrandchildren. Can get your step rate past 10,000 in a day no problem. Keeping up with a highly mobile toddler at the zoo reminds me of just how fast they can move!! Also vastly amused at the universal recognition of the 'give way to an adult trying to
be in charge' rule! Weekend in Canberra with the small ones. - Patti_JMemberThanks for that @Sister. We are having bucketloads of rain at the moment.
I now have an app on my phone which lets me know how many steps I have taken in one day. It is amazing how far you need to walk to get up to 6000 steps. Even walking around the house adds steps. - SisterMemberEndorphins
- arpieMemberWell done @Lynn65 - the last time I tried to ride a bike (just to the store to get the Sunday papers), I took off too hard & fast ..... before I got there, I had to pull over & throw up into the gutter! :( It really DOES pay to pace yourself!
Good on you @Sister - I'd be falling off every 5 mins even in calm water!! I've had some windy/choppy outings in the yak (when I lost my phone overboard!) but as it is a Pedal Kayak I just slow down & plough thru! I am out sometimes for 6+hrs! It's a really good workout for my legs & upper body, as i am casting ALL the time.
A bunch of Fly Fishos are arriving today for a fly fishing muster here this weekend (so lots of walking in shallow water) ..... it will be fun. I just hope I catch at least ONE fish on fly (haven't managed it on the previous Fly Muster Weekends tho!) I only manage to catch them when on my own! LOLThen Next weekend, a bunch of Kayak Fishos are arriving for a 'social' weekend - slightly competitive amongst members ... but not a 'real' competition as such! Fun Fun - SisterMemberSome of you know that I love paddleboarding. Last weekend, I went to the beach in the early morning (got there before first light) but was a bit disappointed that it was so choppy. Went ahead, anyway, and was amazed at my ability to stick to the board through the waves. I got a really good workout and left on a high (although I do have to say that my feet and legs were aching later).
- Lynn65MemberThanks for the encouragement @Romla . I kept your post in mind today as I got on the bike for the first time in a long time to cycle to acupuncture - google said to allow 38 minutes to cycle - I allowed 1 hour 15 min. I did get there no stress and yes some sweat. I had a very relaxing break under a tree and thought give me more of this feeling please! Tired after but hopefully it is something that I can do again sometime soon.
- RomlaMemberAll good - I’m as guilty as the next one for getting off topic.
- SisterMemberFair enough - we do get easily sidetracked.
- Milly21MemberSorry
