Healing well
Well, I am healing well after my mastectomy and the pathology results are back - Stage 3, Her2 positive cancer again. Will mean I am in for the same treatment - chemotherapy plus Herceptin and, more than likely, radiation therapy.
I will probably start my chemotherapy in a couple of weeks and am grateful that I have a couple of weeks break as my youngest starts school (Prep) for the first time tomorrow. It is also a new school for my other, who is in year 1.
I'm really glad that I have healed well and had the break to allow me to do all of the 'normal' parent stuff to get everything they need and so that I can be there with my son and daughter for their first day.
It will also give me the opportunity to speak with their teachers and the principal to communicate what is going on so they are aware when my two talk about what is going on. I have kept them informed at a level they can understand and at 5 and 6 they have no qualms in telling people that their mummy has no breasts. Lucky, I am open and confident so that it doesn't bother me. The only thing I find uncomfortable is when people have that drop face and get all sympathetic. I know they mean well, but I am as well as can be and strong and don't want to wallow in the pity party. Usually, a joke or two breaks the ice, but we will see as a new school for them means new teachers and parents for me to meet.
Interesting times ahead...
