- sandy08MemberThanks @Mollygirl, I guess I just have to be patient!
- MollygirlMemberOops - but I can now finally get mascara on! Hang in there!! Xx
- MollygirlMemberHi @sandy08, I finished chemo in sept and my eyebrows and lashes took forever to come back. They failed a few times too. I thought I was going to look like an alien forever
- sandy08MemberYeah it's just weird I'm losing eyebrows/eyelashes after finishing chemo. My head hair is growing a little but it's more the facial hair that is strange. What a gift hey!!!
- viking1MemberI had my last chemo two weeks ago. I never went bald throughout chemo, just had little spikes. The first three rounds of FEC over 9 weeks saw my hair on my head continuing to grow. Then it went soft like a fuzzy duckling. With the docetaxel my eyebrows started to fall out, then eyelashes. On my second last treatment of docetaxel I noticed my hair falling out again on my pillow and bathroom floor. It was actually at a stage where dad remarked that it was growing back, if a somewhat receding hairline at the front. I've never been overly concerned about my hair ... I get it that some women worry. I've had some major side effects from chemo so more concerned that I'm breathing rather than what I look like. But docetaxel seems to be a bit of a bathplug! It would be ironic to go bald now! Cancer treatments ... the gift that keeps on giving ergh!☹
- sandy08MemberThanks for the info, I thought it was strange but now I know!
- primekMemberI lost the very last of my eyelashes about 4 weeks after chemo. Remember it remains in your body for around 3 weeks anyway. You'll find your eyelid will get itchy in a few weeks then wham a whole lot of eyelashes will reappear all at once.
- melclarityMemberI think when we let go of the expectation of whats ahead and how it should look, we actually just coast along in our own time...but we get there. Yes it is a very hard decision, I did my mastectomy/diep flap recon a year after treatment due to a recurrence at the 4yr mark. It didnt make it any easier, hardest decision ever, but I havent looked back, love my recon and am finished. I worked with an Exercise Physiologist too for the past 13 months, it was invaluable. I wouldnt be where I am now if not for that. Slow and steady... and then emotionally it takes alot too to catch up. x
- sandy08MemberI get the feeling it's going to be awhile until I start to feel 'normal' again! Even though I only had 12 weeks of chemo followed by the surgery the old body has taken a beating. I'm BRCA 2 positive so really didn't have a choice other than having the surgery. A very tough decision and emotionally draining x
- melclarityMemberWonderful! I'm 2.5 yrs post chemo now and its been a long road back, and only now am getting back to a good normal. I did though this year have a single mastectomy/diep flap recon in late feb and then late july the revision surgery which was massive too. So I think the best thing is to have no expectation as everyone else will expect you to be back to normal and quickly post chemo....ummm it doesnt work that way unfortunately. It takes time to heal and rebuild, so be super gentle and enjoy that well deserved rest over chrissy. x
