- KezMacMemberMy whole treatment was overseen by my loving husband who is a food nazi. I only ate organic, vegetarian mainly 95%, the main thing we focused on was keeping up the probiotic to keep the gut flora healthy. Chemo really knocks out your immune system, so any food that has a bacterial risk is possibly why they talk about eggs. I found all foods with preservatives (most are carcinogenic) all foods with sugar, as cancer feeds on sugar especially processed sugar. So fresh food is the best & added immune support through some foods.
A fabulous regime to follow is an author called Cindy O'Meara - "Change your habits - Change your life" Book & websites are fantastic. - AfraserMemberFunny, no-one warned me about eggs and while I was on Taxol and lost my taste buds eggs were one of the few things I could taste and enjoy. Runny yolk and all. Cream cheeses are now discouraged during pregnancy because of potential bacteria problems, but I would have thought an egg was OK. Maybe depends on how fresh it really is.
- ccasperMemberI have been eating a lot of eggs but just make sure they are cooked through. I have been eating like I am pregnant again!! Haha
- Ro10MemberI got told by the oncology nurse that you only have to be really careful during the week that your immunity is low so I'm having my chemo every 3 weeks and she reckons week 2 is the highest risk week and weeks 1 and 3 arnt as bad. Also soft cheeses, deli meats, sushi and basically anything that has been sitting around for a while is risky. Maybe ask your oncologist for their opinion as I'm sure everyone has a different opinion about this. I do love my runny eggs though and hate it when they are so overcooked it's like eating powder!
- GerrybMember@scorpionqueen I failed with boiled eggs this morning maybe that was a sign, usually I have runny yolks for soldiers lol.
- Ann-MarieMemberHi @Gerryb we have a booklet on our website - Healthy Eating. Not sure if this will help you out a little ~Ann-Marie
- ScorpionQueenMemberI was told by my Oncologist to steer clear of lots of things....but eggs are the worst! they must be cooked until almost dry and in my opinion it's just easier to avoid them all together....don't forget alot of sauces eg. bearnaise and carbonara have RAW egg stirred through them at the last minute and therefore don't get cooked enough....I was a bit cranky about all of this but as it turned out i could hardly eat a damn thing anyways during chemo, so it really didn't matter....better to be safe than add to the nausea.....best wishes - Tracy
