Why chemo ?
Hi ladies
well I am now 3 weeks post second surgery full auxiliary clearance and further breast clearance surgery.
I have got news that all margins are now clear and only had 4 nodes involved.
I have had CT of head, abdomen, chest and reproductive system Along with bone scan and PET scan. All have come back clear.
They now want me to do chemo and radiation.
My question is WHY ? ? ?
If they tell me I am cancer free why am I going to have chemo and make myself horribly ill?
Am I crazy for even questioning this?
PS pretty sure I am crazy anyway

- VangirlMemberNHS UK has a tool where you can plug in your details and get an idea of how much benefit each part of your treatment regime may provide. Ask your oncologist about it.

Mine is slightly different stage 1 grade 3 no nodes but her2+ and es+ The similarities are it has taken me a while to get to some sort of acceptance of it all. Because of the her2+ diagnosis the govt dictates to get the drug for that I must have some initial chemo - did my head in big time.
Re the cold cap ask your oncologist some hospitals don’t have them so you have to make sure treatment is at one that does. I’ve just had my 2nd treatment this week using the cold cap and I have had some hair loss but I have very very thick hair and ironically had to get a hair cut today. My lovely hairdresser has had a look and said I have no weird patches just general thinning so a success so far. I too don’t want to look sick
everyone does treatment in a different way and I like the others here don’t want to look back and think if only I’d done x or y to make sure I don’t ever have to hear that diagnosis again. I make a lousy chemo patient but I’m giving it my all cause I am going to kick this thing to where it belongs!
ask your team every question you feel necessary I tend to write them down and then hand them over to my doctors for answers and he has never blinked at answering any of them and I have asked some doozies - SisterMemberWe've all been there! I can't believe how much I thought I'd taken in at the beginning that I realise now that I didn't.
- Melc503Member@Zoffiel have you been spying on me? I swear to god sister you just summed up my life
- ZoffielMemberYou are not an idiot @Melc503 This is what happens when the shit rains down in bucket loads. In the last couple of months you have had the shock of your life, been poked, probed and investigated, had chunks of your body removed, spoken to fuck knows how many people about who remembers what and been forced to make very unpalatable decisions. On top of all that, you have had to learn a whole new language. To be honest, I was worried there was a whole new torture regime that we would all be wondering if we should have been offered. Mxx
- kmakmMemberBloody long. Sucks arse. Eyes on the prize Mel, you'll get through. K xox
- Melc503MemberI am such an idiot. You are correct Zoffiel
- Melc503MemberNo that is it.
- ZoffielMemberI'm not sure, in fact I could be completely wrong, but it could it be the other way around with dose dense AC for 8 weeks then paclitaxel weekly at the end? Probably doesn't matter, still sux. Mxx
- Melc503MemberJust got my chemo schedule and if you ask me it’s bloody long.I am having Paclitaxel every second week for 8 weeks. Then Doxorubicin and Cyclophosphamide EVERY week for 12 weeks
