StrataXRT - Has anyone used it for radiation?

@JoeyLiz Thanks so much for the explanation. I'm sorry it's taken me this long to respond but driving for 3 hours every day is like having a full time job.
You have explained it to me soooo much better than the radiographers.
I've now done 19 of 30 sessions and still only look a bit pink in the major part of the coverage. But it's a huge area they want me to cover and there are certain sections that take way more of the gel.
Those sections. mainly along the scar line and above, are changing colour, but no broken skin. Some pimples come and then go and it's itchy at night. My underarm hairs have all been burnt away but the skin is intact - pink but no blistering.
Invasive cancer cells appeared along the scarline from my mastectomy done in December so I know they're targeting the skin.

Hi @PatsyN the “jelly” that they put over is called bolus, it is made out of tissue equivalent material meaning it has the same density as your skin. It’s purpose is to trick the Radiation into thinking your skin starts that 0.5-1cm earlier, this means that it drops its maximum dose closer to your skin. Bolus is used a lot for post mastectomy patients if there was any question of skin involvement or if there is not much tissue left to pull the dose away from the lung, also used for inflammatory breast cancer. The use of bolus does increase the skin reaction but it sounds like you’ve got that covered and are travelling well :)

An update on StrataXRT.
I've done 15 of my 30 radiations and have had planning re-done at the end of the first week due to a change in my shape (go figure). The radiation techs think it looks pretty good so far but we all know the worst is yet to come. I just look a bit pink but no itching (well, hardly ever). I have a cold slab of jellied mat taped over the entire area as well. It's freezing and is a better conductor of the rays (I guess). @kayvie It's a huge area that I need to cover and my first 50 gram tube will not last the next 3 weeks! It's adam's apple to navel and everything to the right of that front and back but not my lower arm. Approximately 37cm x 37cm plus my upper arm which I think is in keeping with their instructions on coverage. I plan to continue for at least 60 days after radiation finishes so will definitely be getting some more. The cost works out at about $30 a week for the large area I need to cover. I'm not complaining. lol

Yes I know that feeling! I am 12 months post chemo and I have trouble at times remembering words LOL :D :D

I got that last message wrong. I have bought 2 x 50 gram tubes which they reckon ought to do it given the area that needs to be covered. Also I start radiation this coming Thursday. I've got no idea why I said late Monday!
My chemo brain has not totally left me and often I read things I have written and wonder why I said what I said...

Yes before. I had most treatments in the arvo so would shower when I got up and do it then. 
I used it for 3 weeks after as per radiation oncologist and still only used 1 tube! A little goes a very long way.

Your routine sounds identical to what I do with the Stratamed. I shower twice a day and put the Stratamed over my scar snd surrounds like a thin film. It dries but stays shiny. I then moisturize the rest of me.
I can't wait to use it during radiation which starts late on Monday. I bought 2 x 10 gram creams but they recommend you use it for 2 months after radiation as well. I'll get some more in a few weeks. I'm tracking my express post cream snd it should be here tomorrow.

I used the strataxrt during my radiation- best thing ever! I would shower and put it over whole area to be radiated in a thin layer. It takes 10 min to dry so I would moisturize the rest of my body in this time and then dress normally. It forms a very thin layer and prevents rubbing and irritation from clothing. You don't need to use anything else except this gel. It will last from one shower to the next.I only used 1x 20ml tube for 6 weeks of treatment. No burns or skin irritations. Worth every penny!

I see you are going thru chemo so thank you so much for your response. I couldn't do a thing during chemo.

I try never to put creams on before any procedure. I am a big fan of moisturising and know that nothing sticks if you've got moisturiser on.

I've got a range of things for my breast post radiation (Bio-Oil, Happy Breast Balm, the list goes on).

I was under the impression that once you applied the StrataXRT it stayed on for the duration of the radiation... nothing else put under or over it.

I get it in the mail this week.
I just hope it works.
