Still waiting!

Hi all,

Even though I have been given a positive result from my surgery I am still waiting to hear from the medical oncologist to see when or if I am going to have chemo before starting radiotherapy. It is so hard to plan anything beyond next week especially as school holidays is coming up. I know I am one of the lucky ones and I don't have to face more surgery which I am so grateful for. To all of you out there I am  thinking of you  and I know you are well supported. This is such a great site.

  • Thanks Dette for your kind words of encouragement. I finally heard from my oncologist today and made an appointment for July 19! Still more waiting but at least we can enjoy the first week of the school holidays. I hope you are holding up ok. Very frustrating to be told chemo wasn't going ahead. I've been thinking of you. This is such a great site to vent frustrations as so many are in the same situation, stories are very similar.

Hang in there!  And here's hoping all the coming news is good.

    Keep smiling and stay positive

  • Hi Al

Yes the waiting that comes with BC certainly gives a new meaning to taking things as they come!!! I like Heather had a big wait between diagnosis and surgery and now surgery and starting chemo as we've now discovered I have low white blodd cell count before any treatment. For me I have had to stop 'what iffing' and second guessing everything and say it's not going to change so deal with it as it is. Each time I have a question I ask it - of the oncologist, the oncology nurses, breast care nurse, my gp and the lovely ladies on here. That has worked for me. My plans keep moving the goalposts but having a plan works even if I'm not game to fill many days with anything but medical appointments.

Will be thinking of you and hope the news is good and you have the chance to put a plan in place soon.

  • Hi Al,

The waiting is so hard! Once you have a plan, at least you can start to prepare. I had to wait aaaages (nearly 2 months) between diagnosis and surgery, and it was so hard to think about anything else. Eventually I had to stop myself going into 'what if?' overload. I just told myself "it is what it is, it doesn't matter what you think" -- this worked for me. Then there was more waiting between surgery and the pathology report, and the news was mixed -- only one positive lymph node, but a 6.5cm grade 3 tumour (they'd expected it to be about 3cm). Still, I'd rather have a plan to deal with something 'bad' than not know what I'm dealing with.

Hope your news is good, and your recovery fast.

    Heather
