I went private as I had paid health insurance for many years and felt I should not take a bed from a public patient - my surgeon practises in both systems. I have been attending a course with fellow bc ladies and have been surprised about the much greater follow up from bc nurses at the public hospital compared to my private hospital as was another woman who also went to a private hospital . I reiterate however my care whilst in hospital was excellent. My point is once surgery and radiotherapy finished it becomes somewhat scary everytime one gets an unusual sensation in the breast area and I would have liked to know something about what I might expect and to me it seemed a void. Luckily for me I found this blog which has helped considerably and also Cancer Connect with the Cancer Council.
