Short hair......don't care!

Morning Troopers!

Got a call to say they have made a tentative booking for my chemo to start, Tuesday 16/2! ....my heart sank....I'm not ready for that!...but will you ever be? Arrgh!

My hair has been really long for years and I am a Rockabilly chick! Yes I have tattoos, I dress 50's, we even own a Hot Rod and we love to cruise around with our friends, dancing, bands etc etc....So I am a bit annoyed chemo is going to take something that I love to do away from me...that is style my hair in victory rolls, pretty flowers and the like... :(

Before my surgery I decided to give my hair a good trim as i knew what was in store later too.....but today, I cut it even shorter! I did it! my heart was racing and my hairdresser was anxious, but i chopped it! I haven't had short hair since 1984/5! ....OMG! now I fell old! LOL!

So watch out chemo, here I come!

take THAT BC! *insert karate chop here*

Hope you are all sailing along smoothly....

- Tracy

  • You go girl! You'll rock this look too!  I'm waiting to find out if i will need the chemo path, and if so i will look at it as the opportunity to get rid of the dye's i've been using for so many years and embrace the greys (I'm 50, have really dark hair naturally and have been going grey since 21) In the meantime, I've stopped colouring anyway figuring i will have enough crap in my system so lets see what it's like.

I think some of those cool bandanas you see the girls of the 50s wearing will look awesome on you!

  • You look younger with shorter hair! I think you look beautiful either way, but it does really suit you shorter.

All the best for Tuesday. Big day - you can do it :)

  • Go Tracy like you I was really taken aback about the hair loss and my identity.  The last 8 months has taken so much here's a photo of my partner and I taken on Monday ( I've just begun radio) I'm not minding so much this short growth now and now 6 weeks after final chemo eyebrows have revisited yes !!! Best of luck

  • Tracy you are beautiful inside & out & your hair will soon come back.

My neighbour was only telling me today that her father did not lose any hair at all when having chemo. I can understand the sinking feeling you felt when given the starting date but as you told me take it 1 day at a time.

I thought of you last Wednesday as i was waiting for theatre & thought I now must take this an hour at a time.

Wishing you well for next week.

    Hugs

  • You got me at "Hot Rod" :)

Like Christine has mentioned you have been so encouraging to others, now it's our turn to send some love right back to you.

You will always be our Rockabilly chick.

    xx

  • Oh Tracy, I had to laugh at the expression on your face just before the haircut, says it all. But you know what, I actually think you look great with short hair. Maybe you feel old, but you look younger with that sassy new hair. Wishing you all the best for Tuesday, time to kick some chemo butt!!

  • Love your new profile pic, Tracy! Maybe another way to look at chemo is what it can give you rather than take away. When the going gets tough the tough get going and you are definitely going to tough this out!! I am sure you will discover that surviving the ups and downs will make you stronger than ever. Meanwhile it's a good idea to voice those fears. They somehow lose their power when we expose them to the light.

Christine is right you will find other ways to let yourself shine out. Take care. Deanne xxx

  • Good on you. I got my long hair cut shorter as well as after so many years of kilos of hair I figured my neck muscles needed a little time of adjustment before chemo. As it turned out the first round of chemo didn't take all of my hair and I have just enough to bless myself with and it won't be such a shock in another week or so when its all gone.

  • Thanks Christine!

Yes it's only temporary, but still annoying! I'm sure I'll come up with another way to still be me!

and thanks for the "kick in the bum!" ;)

    Xx

  • Hi Tracy!

Don't feel like chemo is taking away from your persona - your new look is only temporary.  Before long you'll have licked this BC and back to what you love the most.  Treat your Rockabilly love as a goal to aim for rather than feeling cheated.  You know the old saying a glass half empty or is it half full?  You've been encouraging others now it is our turn to buck you up ready for this next phase of treatment.

    Good luck and take care

    Christine xx
