  • Hello!

I had PEs after AC during Paclitaxel back in May. My doctors advised it to be a side effect of chemo and/or my portacath.

I was on clexane for a month (until end of my chemo) and then switched to rivaroxaban. I had a lung CT done around the end of July and the PEs had cleared up.

Unfortunately I'm tired from a multitude of things so can't say when the PE fatigue cleared. I did notice the shortness of breath cleared a couple of weeks after starting the clexane.

Hope you're feeling a bit better now!

  • I am SO sorry that you experienced this possible/probable side effect to your chemo, scosue  It would have been really scary xx

I hope that your team is monitoring you closely & making sure it doesn't happen again. xx.

Make haste slowly in your recovery, & if you notice anything 'unusual' ....  my mantra is always "If in doubt, get checked out!"  xx

Take care & all the best in your recovery

Thanks Arpie for your wishes and wise words.

wasn’t too bad- no pain just short of breath and unexpected.

scosue Thankyou for starting this important conversation. While we wait for others to share their own lived experience, we thought you may find the below resources useful:

BCNA provides extensive information on chemotherapy side effects, although pulmonary embolism (PE) is one of those rarer side effects we don't have detailed information on. However, you may still like to explore BCNA’s chemotherapy side effects page here

    Understanding Chemotherapy Booklet (Cancer Council)
This guide explains chemotherapy’s effects and side effects, again it does not specifically mention pulmonary embolism. It does advise patients to report any unusual symptoms and to stay informed about risks associated with treatment View the booklet

Please feel free to contact BCNA's Helpline 1800 500 258 if we can assist further.

Thanks Mez, will look it those resources.

Think the cause of PE is difficult to determine, and also hard to determine what are chemo side effects vs the PE tiredness.
Think I have to learn some patience!
