@NadsWell I haven't been on for a while due to work and treatments....Dr originally told don't need rads well that soon changed didn't it. Well 24 treatments down with 4 to go and omg can't wait. Suffering terrible skin break down under my arm and pain. Not looking forward to this week. The breast care nurses at Mater Springfield have been absolutely wonderful in helping me deal with this and been orderedoff work for the next 2 weeks. Pretty hard when you have your own business and the pressure it puts on yourpartner. This is a bloody long road that we travel ladies and I take my hat off to each and every one of you. Hey @Nads so close but feels like eternity!!! I was like you through rads back in 2011, I worked all the way through but the last few weeks were horrendous!!! I was ordered 2 weeks off when I finished by the radiologist. I honestly collapsed from exhaustion, so I can't stress enough that you have to stop, I know its hard and especially your own business. I too had blistered painful burns in my armpit and across my boob, it was quite bad. It did however heal quickly within a few weeks. Keep up some pain medication to help, try and get as much rest as you can.You are nearly there, you go girl!!!! then stop and nurture you for a bit, I can't tell you how important that is!! 2015 I did Chemo well thats a whole other story hmmm??? too much we all go through, but have a look at how bloody fantastic we all are!!!Big HugsMelinda xo

Hi @Nads, I know how you feel, I have 1 to go but it still isn't coming quick enough, a bit like chemo, the last few seem to drag on. I have been quite lucky with my skin & still working. Good luck, make sure you celebrate that last day!

Hi @Nads, those last couple of weeks of radiation do drag on but you are almost there! Sorry to hear you've had your skin break down, mine did the same but the nurses were fantastic and really looked after it well so that it healed within a few weeks. From memory (my rads were in 2012) I think they dressed it with pure pawpaw ointment as well as continuing to keep up the moisturising cream. I also used pain meds to help.The finishing line is in sight, and I'd agree with @melclarity, if you can take some time at the end just to let your body relax and heal it will be better for you in the long run. Im 5 years post and remember radio well yes the late fatigue can be overwhelming take care and rest.xx

Hi there @Nads - is today your last rad day ??
If so, woo hoo.
It is amazing that when the end is in sight that it seems like an interminable amount of time has elapsed since you felt remotely "well" and not sore, blistered, exhausted and just battered and bruised.
I hope that with the end of this week that the painful sores and blisters will slowly heal and allow your body to become rejuvenated.

You will be surprised at how quickly the skin breakdown heals...the body is an amazing thing. I was prescribed Flamazine cream for mine, after I had tried steroid cream (available from chemist with no prescription). I was all healed less than 2 weeks after last treatment. Be kind to yourself after it finishes, and be mindful of your feeling and emotions. For me it was difficult because everyone wanted to celebrate the end of treatment, right when I was feeling the most exhausted. You are a champion!

Finished radiation today, told boob will be worse next week, have been given some steroid cream. When I first started radiation the nurse told me to put l litre of boiling water in a bowl put in 1tsp of table salt when cool put in fridge. Change water after 48 hours. When cold soak a flannel or something similar in the water and then put on your breast or wherever you are red and hot, it is freezing but the relief is unbelievable, leave on for about 10 mins, I lay on my bed on a towel and do this at least 3 times a day, you can't believe how warm the flannel gets. Hope this gives you some relief or anyone else who reads this. All the best.

Hi Nads it's nearly over. I had my rads 12 months ago. I had the bad skin break down too & used Mepilex dressings which were fantastic, they cooled the skin & helped it to heal really fast. I also had really bad fatigue to the point of basically being asleep or having treatment. Nausea was also another problem I had. But hey I got through it, we all do. You're heading towards the finishing line. Take the 2 weeks off or at least work part time & relax and regroup. Spend it doing something you love or just do nothing at all. Run towards the finishing line with you're held high you've done something bloody hard.

@Nads glad the end is in sight. However I had to still see my radiation oncologist for two follow up appointments. The oncologist stated after treatment there is a build up of reaction to your treatment and they like to keep an eye on you

.I could not believe the fatigue that set in after I had finished. So what am trying to say is take it gently for several weeks after you finish. My definition of fatigue is running out of energy to complete a task. I needed a rest and then restart again. Now five weeks later almost back to semi normal.
