I'm new to all this

Hiya,

I'm new to all this :) my chemotherapy starts next week, and I have been reading through the discussions that include "tips" and it's been really helpful, so thanks everyone.

I am concerned with the expected side effects (especially weight gain), and I look foward to information and support from this wonderful place.

Oh good Pen - I am glad you are finding the kit useful.

Hmmm, I like the last point you had about Chocolate :-) It's 10.41am now...is it too early for chocolate? ;-)

  • good luck with the chemo. i finished my chemo november last year.

i am a big lady and normally i only have to look at food and i gain weight lol but during chemo i didnt gain any.

during chemo just take it one day at a time. we all react differently to the chemo and there will be days when you dont feel like doing anything and good days when a walk outside is just what you need.

the chemo nurses are wonderful so ask them anything. no question is a silly question.

  • Thanks yes I did get a My Journey kit, and I am finding the diary very useful. I will dig out the Pilates DVD too - thanks for the reminder! I am determined to have a walk every day, and hopefully ride my bike which is quite new and hasn't been used nearly enough. Plus I'm keen to focus on fresh unprocessed foods, juices and green smoothies - and chocolate of course :)

    Hi Pen,

I just wanted to add to Mich's warm welcome. I am glad you found your way here and that you are finding it a support during the tough times.

I just wanted to flag a couple of things - which you might find helpful:

    • Did you get a My Care Kit? You should have received it from your breast care nurse - if so there is a Pilates DVD included in the kit and it has some great excercises you could follow.
    • Also, we have not long ago put together a 'Breast cancer and excercise' booklet which you can either download or order a copy online - Follow this link for more information - - http://www.bcna.org.au/fact-sheets-and-booklets

If you have any questions just shout - there are lots of women to share their experiences with you.

    Good luck next week.
