Hair Growing Back
Hi All,
I am on my last paclitaxel chemo next week and staring to look beyond the chemo bad ass.
I am just completing 8 courses of dose dense chemo - 4 xAC, 4x Paclitaxel and am wondering how long it took for others to grow their hair back. I know this is assuming it has grown back sufficiently, as some women are unlucky with hair regrowth.
Just hoping you can share you experiences of when your hair grew back enough to actually feel like you had enough to do something with and any changes in your hair regrowth from before chemo.
Many thanks,
Jo

- EastmumMemberLoving this thread after being away from the forum for a while.
Finished chemo three weeks ago and now have 'peach fuzz' on my head but no idea what colour it will grow back! The 'fuzz' looks a bit grey but pre-chemo I really only had the odd grey hair so really hope that's not what I'll get all over. No matter I guess, I'll definitely colour it. I can't wait for eyelashes again!
What I'm finding really weird is having no 'fuzz' on my arns - putting clothes on feels very strange AND not having nose hairs is the weirdest thing hahaha - no one tells you that :)
I'm sure it's only a matter of time before I'm complaining about an over-growth though..... - I agree with the other comments, the hairdresser is wrong. Mine grew back curly but eventually went straight again. The hard bit is waiting for the curl to be long enough to cut out.
- Patti_JMemberAfter having dead straight hair all of my life, except for a perm in my 20's and post two lots of chemo., I am enjoying my post chemo. curls. I facetiously always used to ask my hairdresser to curl my hair as she was blowdrying it after a haircut. That never happened. My hair grows so quickly and is very thick.
- AfraserMemberNo it's unlikely to stay curly. I agree with @primek, the more you trim the more your hair will get back to normal.
- primekMemberYes @survivor2017 your hairdresser is definitely wrong. I kept mine short for a while after attempting to grow it out and its just slowly lost the curl and seems pretty much as it was pre chemo. Keeping it short was the only way I could manage it easily and no amount of product and styling really gets that darn curl out. Even done by tbe hairdresser! Some people remain with curl but for most is softens after a while.
- SoldierCrabMemberI dont agree with your hairdresser Survivor2017 Mine is straight as now it took about 18mths to 2 years but it is just as straight as before Chemo... I actually had a body wave(perm) put in this week to get some body in it as it is so fine it just sits flat as otherwise these days.
- survivor2017MemberStill have the "bad home perm" look after having a first cut 6 months post chemo. The hairdresser said it will always be curly, but I was hoping it would go straight eventually, like pre chemo. And it grows VERY slowly - I will have to be patient. I'm not good at blow-drying and styling products and would love the "wash and wear" look I used to have. The hairdresser was also against shaving and starting again because it could come back the same. Looking at the positive - at least I HAVE hair!
- JJ70MemberSweet boys @Sister. :)
- kmakmMemberOh cripes. Dreadful. Yep, good thing it was overheard. She won't make that mistake again...
- SisterMemberOh, hell... What a thing to say. Good thing the comment was overheard and the new receptionist can be advised on what is best not commented on. I've had some interesting moments this week with students coming in and commenting on my new hairstyle (wig) and one asking me if I'd had a nice holiday. Gotta love 'em - all boys and no doubt thinking that they're doing the right thing and noticing a haircut and colour!
