Hi, everyone, i finished chem and finally radiation in mid december. I then got the flu 28th december and still struggling to feel well. My glands come up and down often and many other issues, did anyone else feel effects for awhile and how long did it take to get to some sort of feeling okay?? thanks

  • Thank you Donna, oh yes my goal is to get our family on a break we all need this and deserve it, good on you sounds like it made a difference. Thanks for sharing it's always good to hear others stories and puts a bit of ease of mind that this is a kinda normal if there is such a thing lol :-)

  • It is big stuff indeed and I struggled because I'm a natural preventative girl fist so my head space wasn't accepting at first, but we all do what we can, I focus on nourishing my body as much as I can now with my circumstances and we are all different on many levels, it's doing what we need for ourselves, no right or wrong just being happy with our own choices is half the battle
  • I finished my chemo in May 2013 and still suffer some issues. I have been told the fatigue will be there for years. What a bummer, as for picking up bugs last year I seemed to get everything that was going around.

I had renal cancer as well as breasdt so required kidney surgery after my chemo but before my raditation so my treatments/surgeries were very drawn out with me having my last surgery November 2013. I think this impacted my general health.

What I did, after my radiation was finished myhusband and I took a holiday to Cairns, 10 days relaxing, swimming and recouperating. I started back to work after that and worked all 2014.

In Sept/Oct 2014 I took a months longservice leave and over christmas did the same. I find that I tire easily and have needed the breaks.

Good luck wuith your recouperation, be kind to yourself and you will come through just fine.

    Donna

  • I ask a lot of questions as well. I have suffered from a chronic illness for 7 years prior to cancer so I am very aware of my body and when things aren't right. I guess it's hardly surprising that chemo knocks you around so much. It's pretty much straight poison I think.
  • Thank you so much Karen, i'm sorry your still struggling too. Yes immunie systems must have been knocked around way more than i thought. sounds like we were only months apart, i was diagnosed march 2014, lunpectomy, 48 hours later hameatoma cut out then another op for lymph removal. Then chemo then radiation. its nice to know i'm not alone. sounds like your oncologists said way more than mine have.

thanks again. i wish for us to be well sooner :-)
