Does the frizzy hair last?
Is there anyone who is 2-3 years on from having had chemo who can tell me whether hair returns to normal in time? I had my chemo about a year ago and while I am relieved to finally have a full head of hair again it is infuriatingly curly/frizzy. It takes me a laborious half hour at least with my cheapie hair straightener to get it semi-straight. And even then it still looks a bit of a fright. Does post-chemo hair eventually return to normal or should I go out and invest in one of those super-dooper expensive hair-straightners? (Sorry, I know this is a trivial issue but I'm exhausted from tamoxifen-induced insomnia and I'm just fed up with the bloody hair issue.) Janet.

I have lost my hair 3 times and it came back curly( I have straight hair naturally). My curly hair went totally straight again by 18mths.
- ChrisMemberHi, it is now over 3 years since I finished chemo, and my hair is now back to normal. I always had a small kink, and at long last it is back to normal. It is only just back to normal, and for ages I have been wearing curles. It is thinner than before, but I haven't noticed any improvement fron using nioxin. I sometimes use the GHD, but am a bit reluctant as I don't want to damage my hair too much. Chris
- Jk48auMemberI finished my chemo 16 months ago, and when it began to grow, like yours, it was all over the place, thick in the top part of my head, very short on the sides, and curls every which way. I ended up getting my hair thinned out in the thick areas so it looked more uniform. Apparently the hair grows differently in some areas and that is why it can look strange. My advice is keep getting it trimmed to keep it neat. Mine lasted almost exactly a year, and now it is back to straight as it always was. Good luck in the future Jill

I am 14 months post chemo and the curl has changed to more of a wave these days, to be honest I was so grateful to have my hair back I just haven't cared and I sort of embraced the curl, sorry..................
My onc has stated that its all different for us just as our reaction to the chemo was, so I am guessing it lasts as long as it lasts, not much help I'm sorry.

- Kerri1919MemberI am a desperate woman...I am six months post chemo and look like I have a wild curly grey mop on my head....I used to be ms GHD....I hate my curls....I have been slicking my hair down to make it look decent...with the strongest gel I could find....but I am losing the battle.....and if one more person say "just go with the curls" I will scream.....it's so messy and yuck....I am using Nioxin to try and promote growth....I just want some length so I can tie it up or SOMETHING.....any handy hints would be greatly appreciated.....I just want to be me again....I hate looking in the mirror....
- Jk48auMemberFinished chemo February 2013 but continuing Herceptin every three weeks and taking Tamoxifen. My hair began to grow a couple of months after finishing, first just fuzz then I could see little curls around my neck at the back. The sides did not grow as fast as the top, which just got thicker and looked like a Mohawk !!! Luckily my friend used to be a hairdresser so she offered to trim it. She cut with the curl and showed me how to go with it by brushing it up at the nape of my neck. She thinned out the top and I sort of looked like me again. Now I am in need of another trim, and it has been around 12weeks since getting it done My advice......just go with the flow.... Whatever happens, who cares.......happy new year everyone Regards Jill
