Cold Cap Experience
You can see I'm back with a vengeance... I was offered cold caps at the same place I would be having the chemo, at no extra cost or runaround so I decided to give it a go if I could tolerate it. I'm not hung up on losing my hair but know that it would make everything a little bit gentler for the kids (and partner) and if I could manage it and the extra time it takes, no problems. The day of the disastrous non-chemo, about the only thing that wasn't a problem was the cold cap - whether it wasn't on really firmly or I was just so traumatised from the preceding 6 hours, who knows... Jump 3 days to second try at chemo and I found the cap only just bearable. I've still got a couple of weeks to see if it has had the desired effect but I really hate having the greasy feeling of the conditioner-washed hair hanging around my face and I look like one of the lesser-groomed side characters on Midsomer Murders. So, I'm starting to assemble fors and againsts.
I know from reading everyone's posts that when their hair falls out and grows back, the texture, colour and spread can be quite different from how it was before.
I'm sure that even with cold caps (and I know even if successful there's likely to be thinning) there will be changes to the hair. Of those of you who have used them, how would you compare your hair to before, immediately after chemo course, and further down the track?

- Kiwi_AngelMember@Finch that isn’t good - I feel quite achy and high I think must be the WBC injection - not pleasant. Crazy how u feel pretty good and then it just hits u
- FinchMemberI had the best nights sleep ever (10hrs wow!) must have made up for previous 2 nights lack of it. Had a call from the oncology clinic this afternoon to see how I was and was asked to present myself at my GP. Now I'm on antibiotics due to inflamed throat. Bother!
- Kiwi_AngelMember@finch that is what they say - but in the other hand everything gives u cancer three days - just saw on the news last night that a mani pedi can give u cancer and u should put sunscreen on first!! Had a bit of a crash last night - took all my meds and woke up with stomach cramps and mild nausea at 3am this morning so took more meds. Have the revolting metallic taste and the back of my neck feels bruised.
- kmakmMember@Finch There are worse things! I had a mani pedi in my second cycle. Most enjoyable. Couldn't have one now, too sore, but looking forward to having one again, hopefully sooner rather than later.
- FinchMemberwe eat very little meat, last time was 3 weeks ago. You'd think this would safeguard us from bc @kiwiangel ? So we're told anyway.
- FinchMemberLooks like a trip to the beautician for me
- kmakmMemberI've had dark nail polish on my toes from the start until last Saturday when I succumbed to curiosity. They are sore, and the big toes both have the same reddish brown discolouration as my finger nails, though at the base. I reckon give it a go @Finch, it may work for you and no harm if it doesn't.
I got rashy on my chest in the third cycle, and a little bit now too. Quite itchy. - Kiwi_AngelMember@Finch I am primarily vegan but did start eating fish again as I was very tired and had low B12. I have heard the nail thing can help and the nurses did agree so figured it was with a go. I have been having brief little red flushes in the evening about 5pm but doesn’t last long. Just keep taking my temp. I’m feeling a little more tired tonight - hopefully a good sleep and not too bad tomorrow.
- FinchMemberI'm wondering whether to go get a dark colour manicure and if it really helps
- FinchMemberAre you a vegan @kiwiangel?
I'm still feeling fine but I've come up in a red flush/rash
