Chemo Sucks emu eggs!
9am start at the hospital for Chem #2.....finally got home at 6pm. God what a total stuff up of a day. Apparently, they had changed my appointment times and some dingbat never thought to let ME know! So poor Mum was left all alone ALL day. Thank God I had set up two flasks for her with coffee in one, and ice water in the other. Stacks of snacks and goodies for her to eat.
The ultrasound was useless (in my humble opinion). It took over an hour with 2 docs searching.....searching....searching. Finally they found 'eureka' I gave a loud sigh of relief... to be told... oh no dearie, it will be a few more mins yet trying to seat this needle. Quite a few mins in fact. Then back up to 6th floor.. wait an hour to see a chinese doc that I could barely understand...to find out I must have a special blood test (I should barely have a drop of blood left by now!!) before I can have the chemo. Far out. 1hr 20 mins later (not that I'm keeping track of time, of course) they realised no one had done the blood test and called me in in a big rush. FINALLY got around to starting the chemo at 415pm ...... and barely 30 seconds into it - I had a huge (bloody terrifying) reaction to it!! OMG it was the scariest thing I've ever known. Like a huge weight was on my chest, a huge hand squeezing my throat closed, my ears felt like they were about to burst and damned if I could breathe. Scarey! The nurses and docs were all onto me like seagulls onto a hot chip!! Thank God.... within seconds the sensation eased when they shut it down, but lordy lordy lordy that was so frightening. I honestly thought I was having a heart attack.
So, all in all, the day was a huge bloody disaster.... I'm totally over this whole chemo thing. So there. Course.... not like anyone would listen to me hahahaha
PS: Early night for me...... more doc appointments tomorrow *sigh* (someone make this go away pleeeeeeeease)
Barb.... *yawning*

Hey Lucky you losing weight
I put heaps on during chemo with the drugs i used to get a kick out of it each weigh in before chemo. My record was 8 kg in a 3 week period!. Unfortunately 12 months later i have stacked on heaps...lots of comfort eating but determined to lose it all back to weight watchers next week.
Radio is a drag but was amazed how quickly it all went. I burnt badly and needed a break at day 23. Take comfort in knowing we have been where you are now and come out the other side.
Good luck to you????

Thank you, Skitzy :)))
It was certainly a high octane stressed day, that's for sure. Praying like mad this was my one bad moment of the chemo stage. All prayers will be gratefully received.
Thanks Skitzy :)))

Oh Barb it sounds like you had an awful experience. I hope your future sessions are a lot better than that one & will be thinking of you with prayers. xx

Thank you so much, Maryrose,
I am SO SO glad I found this site! The support and so many words of wisdom during what must be the scariest time of any woman's life, is just priceless.
And you bet next time will be better LOL I'll make damned sure about that! Just two more cycles to endure *groan* and then the horror prospect of 5 days a week of radium for 6 weeks. yuck yuck yuck.
Being finally able to eat again I feel I can face anything! lol Although I'm definitely not thrilled at the prospect of having to put the 7 kilos I lost in 21 days back on! That was THE only upside I found to the chemo - and they are determined to make me put it back on! noooooooooooo

Thanks, Chrissk :)) I'm thinking we all go through something like this at some stage - so be prepared! As much as possible I try to use humour, but I'm thinking I was pretty short on the humour last Thursday and most definitely not something I will forget in a hurry!
My chemo is a mixture of Docetaxel (taxotere) and Cyclophosphamide - and I take the Dexamethasone the day before, day of and the day after to counter the worst of the nausea and diarrhoea. Oh, and I had to have the needle for the white cells yesterday at my GPs. So all is done and dusted. "Phew"
So far, I've had no call to be put into hospital. (Touch wood) But I've pretty much made sure I haven't gone anywhere but the hospital and docs (and I consider them the most dangerous places of all surrounded as you are by very ill people!) I also make sure I have little or any contact with children with so many irresponsible parents not immunising their children. The only downside to doing this is cabin fever and I am withdrawal not seeing anything of my grandson! lol
BUT I can eat again!! I have my taste buds nearly back in control wooooo hoooooo

Thanks, Tracey :) You have to admit, we all have our stories lol Kind of helps me put my own problems into perspective, to be honest, when I read what others are undergoing and makes me realise this isn't all about me! It's a great leveller. My biggest problem is letting go of my independence. My biggest problem is letting the family in to help me with caring for my mother now lol Fussing over her has been my biggest help in reality, because it stops me falling in a heap. I truly believe that. They all want me to put her into long term respite, but that would be a real cruelty for her - and me! I think she keeps me sane just when I need her the most.
Hope things are improving for yourself too, Tracey! Utterly fell in love with your artwork, young lady! What incredible talent you have! I would love to have a talk to you at some time to do one of my son and I about a drawing of him and I with our bald heads! My family are stunned how we look like twins now! hahahaha
Take care of yourself, Trace :)) No use saying don't worry, because that's just like saying don't breathe!

Its very low in my throat/chest like a reflux at one end and a restriction at the other. My breast nurse said my GP can give me a pill for it so I will get some next week, ready for the next lot of chemo.
Yes my sinus is connected to my left eye which is why when I use eye drops I end up tasting it in my throat. I think its supposed to close as a child but one of mine didn't. I will keep in mind the antihistamine though, good tip.

Wow Barb I feel for you... what a terrible thing to go through, bad enough we have to deal with chemo and all but I think medical team needs to be more organised! Can I ask what chemo you are having? Im having AC and the 1st one put me in hospital, make sure you get the injection for the white cells.
Hooley Dooley! (me being ladylike here!)
How horrific Barb! Talk about turning you off treatment. Hopefully they'll get it right next time! I'm glad you had an awesome sleep, your body knows when to shut down properly and give you strength for the next day, that's for sure!
Don't know what else to say, except you WILL beat this!
Breathe in courage and exhale fear.....We're right beside you all the way...
