Chemo caps
Hi All,
I'm new here and was carer for my cousin who was diagnosed with aggressive, metastatic BC in July 2021. She underwent many rounds of different chemos and lost her hair three times throughout her journey.
I'm new here and was carer for my cousin who was diagnosed with aggressive, metastatic BC in July 2021. She underwent many rounds of different chemos and lost her hair three times throughout her journey.
I have approx 16 of her chemo caps (she called them 'hats') that I would like to send to someone who could use them. Happy to split them and send 8 in each bundle to two ladies.
She loved her 'hats' and would receive many compliments on them.
The bottom picture is to give you an indication of what they look like on.
So, if anyone would like all or half of these, please let me know 😊

- LeighLeighMemberAhhh, so sorry to hear that @arpie 😔 He obviously didn't let it get in the way of his dreams which is absolutely amazing. What a champion indeed 🥇
Lovely to hear that you're doing well and that this forum has helped you so much 🩷 - arpieMemberI am going fine, but sadly, my hubby passed away 2 years ago from Mets, after 10+ years clear of stomach cancer (he had most of his stomach removed yet got back to competing in triathlons again, even winning World Championships!) What a champion.
The support I received from my friends here was just amazing
take care - LeighLeighMember
@arpie I hear you loud and clear on your first point! In saying nothing, implies they want to just ignore it 😬 Maybe they don't want to upset you by discussing it, but it's very important to show support by asking how you're going (and in your case your hubby).
How ARE you and your hubby doing? That must've been just devastating! I can only imagine being sent into such a spin. It's a wonderful gift to have made such friendships on this forum 😊 I think you really need someone to 'bounce' things off and an understanding ear. Not to mention some fun times as well! 😊
Thank you, I will check the carer pages out. Happy to chat and help people should they have any questions 😊 It may even help me a little bit too 🩷 - LeighLeighMember@Blossom1961 Yes, I don't think people know how to handle the situation. I'm sure they have sympathy, but they just don't have a complete understanding of how complex things are and I guess that's fine. I'm happy for you that you were able to make friends on here. That's such a blessing to have people that have walked, or are walking the same path 😊
I hope your treatment went well today and you don't get too many 'after effects' 😬 Great news that you will keep your hair 😊 All the very best on your journey 🩷 - arpieMember@LeighLeigh - Yep - I was definitely surprised at who hung around & stepped up to the plate & supported me/us (my husband had cancer too) & who disappeared :( Some don't know 'what to say' so they say NOTHING - and that really hurts.
But as @Blossom1961 said - it is amazing the 'new buddies' that you make (particularly here on this forum) where many of us have made seriously good friendships that we maintain offline as well, we even meet up in person & catch up. (I spent a week in Darwin before Covid, with a buddy from here!) and can't wait to do it again!! ;) I caught up with Blossom1961 last year when I was in Vic - and it was just so good, putting a face to the lovely person I'd been chatting with for a few years xx
Feel free to put up any comments that you'd like re helping your cousin thru her treatment, as you went thru it too xx ....
We started a 'carer' private group a while back - as it can be a minefield navigating all the bumps, specially getting on to Care Plans & assistance in the home etc specially at the pointy end .... I am sure you would have some real gems of info that could help others who are doing the same!
Take care - Blossom1961Member@LeighLeigh I had friends drop away but picked up others who have been absolute gems. I am the buddy @arpie was referring to but I have been told I will probably keep my hair. Lovely caps.
- LeighLeighMemberThank you. There's no rush with this.I understand completely. Let's see if your buddy wants them or someone else. As I said, there's no rush. If not, I may post over there in a coupla days. It's all good. Most are overwhelmed with appointments and juggling life's other commitments. I get it 🤗
I have a question for you if I may:
Did you find people (friends) slowly 'dropped away' due to possible lack of understanding? It happened with my cousin.🩷 - arpieMember@LeighLeigh - That would have been tough on you, supporting your cousin thru her journey with her ups & downs - and she would have SO appreciated it - it is also an honour too, caring for a sick relative/buddy xx
Maybe if you copy & paste your same post onto the "Metastatic Cancer'' Category as well, you may get a quicker response ..... I am sure you'll be able to find a good hope for those lovely hats here ;)

I have messaged one buddy who I thought may be interested. ... tho she is having treatment today & may take a couple of days to get back to you.
take care xx - LeighLeighMemberHi June1952,
Thankyou for your reply 😊
I am in a capital city and I did think of McGraths. I had a search around online before posting here and couldn't find any info other than cash donations. I do have a breast care nurse contact who is available on certain days only. If it turns out that nobody here would like them, then I'll get in contact with her for advice.I could put them in a clothing bin, but I want to ensure they go to people who might need them (and actually know what they're for!!)
All the best on your journey and to everyone else here. Reading through the posts brought back many memories. Radiation, MRIs, infusions and all the different chemo names and order of which they are administered. My cousins' oncologist remarked that I was 'pretty much a doctor' now having been side by side on my cousins journey 😆 Well, maybe not, but I do have a very good understanding of types/grading/mets etc.
You are such brave and fearless warriors!! Sending much love and strength to you all. Stay strong and keep climbing 🩷 - June1952MemberThat is very generous @LeighLeigh. As you are in a capital city if you don't get any response on here you may like to contact a McGrath Breast Care Nurse or take them to a local cancer centre.
