Great advice girls and yes @soldiercrab thanks for the tag and @Spiv1803 in our group. In regards to driving, just go with your Dr's advice, I think your insurance can be an issue if you drive against advice. I waited 6 weeks, but my surgery was a bilateral TRAM (from tummy). We are all different, but check out the Lat Dorsi stories in choosing breast recon.

- onemargieMemberHi there love yes you can do this. You have the strength inside your soul it’s there and it will come out on Monday when you need it. Just think of why you’re doing it in the first place. You have been through so much already and this is the last part of this shitty mountain you have to climb and like I say when you’re done you can run up the shit covered mountain with your new set of titties and leave BC at the bottom to lie in it own filth where it belongs and know in your heart you have well and truly kicked it in the fucking balls for sure. I’ll be at the top waiting for you with the champers to watch the sunset with you. (Not the sunrise too early for a drinkypoo then). You are a warrior and a survivor and you’ll be well and truly ready to get on with the rest of your long happy life knowing you’ve done all you can to keep BC out of your life forever. Thats enough of the sappy shit lol. I’ll text you over the weekend. Big hug. Margie. Xx.

All the best for your surgery on Monday !! Where are you planning to have your procedure done? What are the prerequisites have been told to you prior to the operation? - TripleTeaMember@Spiv1803 I have just driven for the first time this week at 6 weeks post op. I probably could have driven a week earlier but not any earlier than 5 weeks as it was too sore and every time I turned slightly, reached or flexed my right boob would have a sharp pulling pain. After it "pulls" a few times my whole boob would really ache. This went on for a while.
Hopefully yours is different because if it wasnt doing the pulling thing(the nurse thinks it was my stiches pulling or bag sitting on a nerve) I think I would have been able to drive around 3 weeks probably. Then last Thursday it stopped.
They still hurt now but not enough to stop you doing stuff, I just take panadol & neurofen but I still cant do everything normally with my arms. Sometimes its frustrating but I can see improvement every day.
You will do just fine- Its Much easier than Chemo!! - CarmelSMemberNo no no don't worry...........this was a long & torrid tale that began nearly 7 years ago !!! with mastectomy & immediate implant recon.
I had only a right side LD (repair) in 2015 after post radiation contracture, many surgeries & wound healing issues (underlying issues) I also have a silicone implant. Like I said, a long & torrid tale.
You'll be ok
Carmel - Spiv1803MemberWow, was this after double lat dorsi or just exchange surgery. Pardon my ignorance but I'm having my double lat dorsi on Monday and I'm just a bit worried.
- CarmelSMemberIt does very much depend on the surgeon. I was allowed to drive (maybe he sensed I may hurt someone if I couldn't drive) thankfully because I spent the next 6 weeks driving to clinic & community nurses to see how it wasn't healing before convincing them it really was getting worse...........my goodness am I bitter & twisted or what !!
Yes I could drive......was a real relief to have last drain out after a couple of weeks too.
You'll be fine.
Carmel - Spiv1803MemberThanks @CarmelS . So did you drive after your procedure?
I want to not be laying in bed for a month. I guess we are all different, right? But I also don't want to overdo it and hurt myself. - CarmelSMemberYes you can do it .......definitely !!! Mine is a little different. It was a repair for wound healing problem which had its own wound healing issue ! My surgery was on June 4th & then I had another to fix that wound healing problem on about July 18th &then drove off into the desert/bush a couple of days later & had stitches removed in WA two weeks later. I was stiff & sore & sleeping on a camp bed but determined. The only real issue is doing a chin-up type of movement (who needs to do them ) I have some difficulty if I am getting into the drivers side of our 4wd which is quite high (& I am not !) but I manage. If you see a pic of my boob/Lat Dorsi it isn’t pretty because it was done as a repair not a full recon (pity that thought didn’t enter their brilliant minds )
Best of luck. Just ask Drs all the questions you need to.
Carmel - kmakmMember@TripleTea I think you're absolutely right. I'll be interested to know when you do feel 'better', as in how accurate my BreastCare nurse's advice is. Take care. K
