My Inspiration

Was this a coincidence or fate? Towards the end of my active treatment (last 2 weeks of radio), we had to move house. It was a great distraction but certainly not easy at this stage (I had also had a mastectomy and 18 weeks of chemo).
My wonderful sister helped on moving day and I really don't think I could have done it without her. The very next day there was a fire in her home which badly damaged both her daughters' bedrooms. So where was the inspiration in all this?
The head of the fire service that attended the fire noticed my head covering when I turned up to try and help. He spoke with my Dad and it turns out his wife had had Breast Cancer 20 years ago. She was not given a good prognosis but had 2 rounds of Chemo and surgery and radio. She then totally changed her priorities in life and took up exercising with avengence.
Even more of a coincidence it turned out that this lady had gone to school with my Mum and even stayed with my Mum's family when her parents had had to go away for some reason. She ended up ringing my Mum and having a great conversation reassuring us that in her situation she feels exercise and lifestyle choices have helped her to stay well and have a terrific quality of life.
She inspired me to 'get active and stay well'. I hope this story might help others to be inspired too. We all deserve to give ourselves the best chance of having a long healthy life. Take care. Deanne xxx
