Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Hi everyone,
Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time to acknowledge the significant impact breast cancer has on so many people right across Australia. It is a time to recongnise the women and men diagnosed with breast cancer, their family, friends and all those around them.
Breast cancer survival rates in Australia continue to improve, with 89 per cent of women alive five years after a diagnosis. However, it remains the most common cancer affecting Australia women with 42 women every day experiencing the shock and fear of being told they have breast cancer. Treatments are complex and some aspects are changing all the time. Our ageing population means more women are diagnosed each year so there is an increasing need for the support, information and programs we provide at BCNA.
Despite improvements in diagnosis and treatments more than 2,700 women will lose their lives to breast cancer this year. This year BCNA is highlighting the needs and acknowledging the experiences of women living with a secondary breast cancer diagnosis, also known as advanced, metastatic or stage 4 breast cancer by recognising Secondary Breast Cancer Awareness Day on 13 October 2014.
We invite you all to join in and help to raise awareness of both early and secondary breast cancer this October, and make sure those affected know they are not alone.
Maxine

Hi Maxine,
A great post. Easy to follow and a great reminder of the main facts to pass on to others.

Hi Alice,
Absolutely! We'd love you to spread the word to your closed Facebook group.
Cheers, Laura (BCNA Media)0 -
Ok thanks that would be great .... our group supports those who have or are chosing to go with no reconstruction.... https://www.facebook.com/groups/bcnoffaaduaustralia/
This closed group is for anyone who has undergone a mastectomy and is now learning to live with
NO reconstruction, or chose to wear foobs.
did you choose not to have reconstruction?
did you have to reverse your reconstruction?
are you contemplating it?)
Whatever the case, we would love to see you here
Many of us can understand the day to day issues unique to living without reconstruction following mastectomy, in Australia. We can figure it out together.
So feel free to open up and have a vent or express yourselves in any way you need to! We do not judge or discriminate! We believe in embracing each other and accepting each other's differences! No matter what!
You need information about services or where to go for foobs etc just ask.it is great to be able to empower people to feel that they are accepted no matter what choice they make.
