Hi

Hello to everyone and thanks for letting me join your group. My partner Shelagh has just received the news that her cancer has returned since an original diagnosis in 2011.

6 months ago we migrated to Australia to persue an offer we couldn't refuse. We now find ourselves in a strange country, with little connection to the local community with a disease that has rocked us to our core.

Though as a family we are strong, we feel we could benefit from some face to face support groups. Being away from family and friends has not felt so isolating as it does now.

If anyone knows of any groups in the Adelaide area (we live in Flagstaff Hill) that would be open to new members we would really appreciate this.

Thanks

Sean

Hi Sean, I'm just jumping in to give you a link to the online group that Robyn suggested. I know there's an active face-to-face group in Adelaide that you could connect with. The facilitator is Celeste and I know she would be really wanting to connect and help you and your partner Shelagh through this very difficult time - http://www.bcna.org.au/group/9280

Hello Sean, I'm very sorry to hear about Shelagh's bc diagnosis. It is certainly a shock and a very difficult time indeed. Being in a new country wth little support must also be very challenging :(

I live in Adelaide and facililtate a group called the Adelaide Breast Cancer Friendship Group. The group is for women whose lives have been affected by breast cancer and also their loved ones, family and friends. We have a Facebook Page to advertise our face-to-face events that are held fortnightly, as well as advertising our events via this site. We also have a Chat Room on Facebook, however this Chat Room is a private and secure chat room only for women who have been diagnosed with BC (no family members or friends, sorry).

Our fortnightly face-to-face get-togethers are held all over metropolitan Adelaide, and we meet for lunch and dinner. Our next get-together for dinner will be on Friday, 19th September at 7pm at the Seaton Hotel which is in the western suburbs of Adelaide. We are also heading down south (Morphett Vale) on 17th October for dinner. If you and your wife are interested, please feel free to email me at c-bug@****.au and I can send you a copy of our Schedule of Events.
Our Facebook Page is located at https://www.facebook.com/AdelaideBreastCancerFriendshipGroup

and our Chat Room for Shelagh is located at:

The link to our group on this BCNA site is:

    Kind regards

    Celeste :)

Thankyou Celeste, it is good to know there is a place to connect with others. The face to face groups sound good, but as we are at the start of our journey we will weigh up what we can and cant manage at present. Certainly the October meeting sounds more realistic.

    I will be intouch
    Thanks
