Hi everyone,

I'm meeting with an oncologist soon to discuss treatment options, and I wondered if anyone in Melbourne has been treated by Dr Richard De Boer? I guess id like to be seeing someone familiar with tnbc.

Thanks,
Penny

Richard is my Onco. I don't have TNBC but had grade 3 tumour and extensive DCIS. I have found him wonderful. He takes time, answers all your questions, looks stuff up for you and is balanced in his approach. He came highly recommended by my surgeon Prof Bruce Mann.

Thanks Julie - that's great to know.
Can I ask what promoted the mastectomy for you?

The DCIS was right through the breast. The tumour was aggressive. No lymph involvement. The tumour was hormone positive so not TNBC.

He was great support through my chemo. I had the Onco dx test done and it came back in the middle of range. He kindly walked me through my options and in the end decided togo ahead with chemo.

If for some reason you don't go with Richard, I can 100% recommend Lara Lipton who is based at Cabrini in Malvern.

I had TNBC and she was absolutely magnificent, highly recommended from my surgeon as I am terrified of all things medical - ie. pass out reading a first aid book (seriously).

She specialises in TNBC and also is part of the genetic clinic there (I forget her exact role in that - her title is Associate Professor though.)

She was really supportive, I had her number to call 24/7, very approachable and explains things really well. She is also "human", if that makes sense, some in the medical field are quite distant from the patients, but not her.

Have her as a Plan B!

PS: I'm not sure where abouts in Melbourne you are, but have you considered joining the "Melbournites" group on here? We meet up every now and again for lunch, you'd be welcome to come along if you could make it!

    Thanks Bobbie.

A friend who is now almost 5 years cancer free suggested I 'interview' a few oncologists to see who feels right so thanks for your trip.

I live city fringe in Melbourne so it would be nice to come along to a lunch. I'll search for that group and join. Thanks!
