Exercise!

Hi ladies:) Yesterday,I had my first of 5 sessions in one of the gym classes that has started up at LifeHouse ,with the exercise physiologist. There was myself and 2 other ladies. We all had different stories and treatments, but of course the one common thread was cancer.I had the best time, and we were all happily exhausted at the end of the hour.We did treadmill, rowing, skipping, weights and bands, exercises, and more!We had our heart rate monitored, and over the 5 weeks,we are all hoping to improve. It is so much more fun if you can exercise with someone else occasionally, and it definitely motivates you to try harder.I hope everyone is doing OK,and remember that exercise really does help with physical symptoms AND how you feel:) Take care everyone.xox Robyn

I've always tried to exercise but like many people have allowed other things to get in the way of my best intentions (work, family, interruptions like illness or holidays even!)
This had happened around the time that we think my cancer started. We had moved, my husband went overseas, I had a daughter about to graduate High School, we were building a new house and trying to sell our farm in a depressed real estate mark, etc! I allowed my health to slip down the list of priorities.
Luckily I had woken up to myself and had already got myself back on track just before diagnosis. I am so glad that I was fairly fit going into treatment and really think it helped me to cope with the mastectomy, chemo and radiation.
Now on tamoxifen I believe the exercise helps to counteract any side effects. I use the chance of recurrence to keep me motivated and find it helps to try new ways of exercising too. It challenges me, keeps me from getting in a rut.
Your posts about exercise help too, Robyn. I am so glad that you keep posting about the benefits and what you are doing. If there is anyone out there struggling with treatment or recovery and wondering how to help themselves, I really think exercise is the most beneficial thing you could do. Find what works for you, start today!
Let us know what you do so we can all help each other to a healthier, happier life. :)Deanne xxx0 -

I am the same Deanne.I have always tried to exercise, but also allowed things to get in the way.Not any more!!:) I am convinced that exercise helps with Tamoxifen side effects, and the one thing that I notice,is that when I exercise, whether it be walking,or doing my actual exercises,I can't even count on one hand the number of times that I have had a hot flush. But I have plenty at other times of the day! Take care Deanne.xoxRobyn0

Hi Robyn,
Assuming you mean the Lifehouse at RPA Sydney? Can you please tell me what this class is called. I work school terms so maybe if it is on in the holidays I can come.
Thanks,
Julia

If you ring up LifeHouse, and ask to be put through to the living room, the ladies there will tell you all the days for the classes. There are different days you can choose, and different times.Yesterday I did mine at 12.00 but there was a 9.am one also.Michael the exercise physiologist, tries to fit them in around when people are available.I looked at my sheet, and it is called,Exercise physiology consult group session. Do it ,it's great! Cheers Robynxox0
