conditions of my work changed
Hello,
I have returned to full time work to find that my Rostered Days Off have been taken away while I was on sick leave. I work in a school and this was a local arrangement(so not in law).
My immediate boss said she felt that too many people were involved in this scheme and as I was not at work(though my sick leave counts as service) on the day she decided, that she removed me from the list of people allowed to do this.
I am constantly exhaused and have used up all my sick leave during my illness.
I am angry, upset and saddened that this could happen to someone battling cancer. She will not budge on it and the Principal allows her to make her own decisions so I have no one here to appeal to.
Does anyone know if there are any anti-discrimination provisions or something else that I may be able to call up to help with this morally wrong decision?
Thanks, Julia

thanks for your responses. Unfortunately, I will be in hospital for the webinar(5th and hopefully last operation the day before) why can't my work understand!!
In response to Mgmdam, it is not in our award just a local policy that I had been doing for 7 years before cancer.
It is not right that I should lose a work condition that I had due to cancer leave.
I will continue to look around and ask Fair work, union etc but what a stress out having to do this!
thanks, Julia

Am I reading your blog correctly, that some staff are still allowed to have RDO s but others can't due to the discretion of your immediate boss? How did she decide this I wonder? It certainly seems unfair.Did this happen to anyone else?Perhaps you could go over her head and talk to the principal- take others also affected with you. And if you are the only one, then that smacks of discrimination for being sick. Tonya xx

Yes that sums up the situation! My boss is still having them while telling me that she has taken me off them because too many people had them!
I talked to the head of welfare- I work in a school (the welfare is actually for the boys)and he agreed with me and approached my boss who refused to budge. He then went to the principal who said he leaves decisions like that up to my immediate boss. So no support there!
A couple of other staff have been told they have been taken off too. I was on maternity leave and the other just decided to pull out after a problem getting a day that was really important to her but has been refused readmittance into the system.
So not giving up yet, thought I may call the cancer council to see if they know any laws regarding thses issues, meanwhile I am making myself unpopular with management- for not taking this lying down.
