Portacaths and Exercise

I have recently finished my treatments, however, will have my portacath left in for a while. I am keen to increase my exercise regime.

Has anyone been given any advice about activities that should be avoided if you have a portacath.

I have heard repetitive activities such as golf and swimming should be avoided as well as upper body workouts. Has anyone heard of this?

I would appreciate the combined knowledge of this site.

Thanks,

Helen.

Hi Helen,  I finished chemo in June 2011 and still have my portocath in place.  I do whatever I like including heavy exercise.  I do weights as well.  I am about to start boxing again.  I do heavy gardening as well.  Every 5-6 weeks I go to the oncology ward and have it flushed out.  No problems.  No-one has ever mentioned limitations to me.  My limitation is caused by lympodema in my arm (opposite side).  The only time I am a bit careful is around my two little grandchildren who love to tackle Nanna and also use me as a "beanbag". Go for it girl - the world is your oyster. XLeonie
