Time out

I have been very lucky! I've just returned from 3 weeks in South Africa. This was to make the most of the break after 6 months of chemo and before radiotherapy starts on Monday! It felt so good to get away and feel 'normal' again. (Well nearly)

Only a few things to contend with:
# keeping the wig hair under control in the wind when out on safari drives (hair still thin on top but growing well on the rest of my head)
# keeping 'neuropathetic' toes warm on sunrise drives (noticed today that the toenail on big toe of right foot is going to come off - taping it so it doesn't catch on anything and come off before it's ready!)
# keeping rash on arm creamed up when soaking up the rays during afternoon drives (given strongest steroid cream and this has worked - nearly gone now)
# blocking out thoughts of infection as the 5 month old cheetah cub sucked on my finger (didn't even occur to me at the time)

Haha - very minor issues when you in an amazing part of the world immersed in experiences of a life time! I reckon we had one of the best possible wildlife safaris with definitely THE best guide (my daughter)! Was so good to have my man by my side, as always, to share these adventures.

I can highly recommend taking a holiday AWAY from normal routines and places to rejuvenate the spirit. My daughter decided to come home with us which was another huge plus! Family is special and to have her close again with her sisters feels wonderful.

Herceptin 6 today - had to postpone it a day as our flight from Joburg was delayed for 12 hours and then we had to wait for a new connecting flight from Perth. Trying to sleep on airport floors for 2 nights was the only negative in our whole trip. More adventures!

Ready now for next phase of BC journey.

    Hi Erica,
Welcome back. So glad your trip was a great experience. Fantastic to be able to see other parts of our world. Ian and I went on an eight week trip for our 30th wedding anniversary last year before my BC journey began. It was a trip of a life time for us but now that we have the travel bug, we plan to do it again when I've finished all my treatment. Possibly in 2015. Who knows, we may go to Africa :)
Good luck with your next phase Erika.
