Thank you Katie for accepting me into the phyllodes group. Well here goes with my story.... I want to post it as I'm hoping that others might benefit by what I am saying. The "writer's rave" to follow is not meant to be "all about me" rather an insight to who I am and a summary of my journey so far. My story starts in May 2013 with a lump that seemed to grow overnight...GP referred me immediately to a Surgeon... Mammogram and Biopsy under ultrasound. First surgery to remove the lump...Diagnosed as malignant Second surgery to remove more margins....result was clear margins. Then developed hematoma due to a blood vessel bursting post the second op. Aspirations and Surgeon manipulating to assist the removal of the residue over several weeks. This was seen as an 'unfortunate event' that happened causing a complication with months of discomfort and pain. The Surgeon was trying to keep me from a third op. Presently, I still have a shrinking hematoma and hoping to get back to a more normal lifestyle now that pain and discomfort has subsided. Many people who know I have had breast cancer are so surprised there is no further treatment for a malignant phyllodes tumour. Many have asked me when I will be starting chemo and when I explain they are astounded! One person said to me: 'Well the cancer's gone otherwise they would be doing some further treatment'. We don't really fit in 'the usual' - do we? I would like to say to all of you out there that you are amazing. Each of you would have your own story and a journey to follow and I have so much admiration for all of your courage and strength. Talk to me about who you are and what other great stuff you are doing in your lives I would love to hear. IP
