To drink or not to drink?

Just wondering.... I've been very careful to avoid alcohol since being diagnosed with BC. But I have in the past enjoyed a white wine or too, a vodka at times, a Baileys or a Cointreau to top off a good evening...

Sometimes I really feel like letting the hair down (I wish!!!) and partaaayyying! I've read some research (and probably really just common sense) that says cancer and alcohol don't mix. Especially with the drugs we're given. Herceptin in particular. So I'm being careful.

But I'd love to know of research that tells me it's OK to less loose every now and then!

I think that resveritrol in red wine is supposed to be good for you.So a glass or two a week couldn't hurt??It doesn't hurt me anyway!

Hmm my birthday is just after chemo finishes so I reckon I'll enjoy a glass or two then! But not missing it at the moment really. Occasional and everything in moderation... :)

I think Im the same as the rest of you . the weekend before chemo I allow myself a red if Im at a party . Other than that Ive left it alone. I used to love a red or 2 or 3 when I was out but I could also go a month with nothing at all, so I suppose a little now and again is fine ..well I think so anyway.

    cheers

I had actually made the choice to not drink a few months before I was diagnosed with BC because I wanted to lose a few kilos. I found it difficult at first as I associated a glass of wine with socialising and relaxing.

I eventually found I enjoyed drinking sparkling mineral water with a squeeze of lime in it. I put it in a nice glass and made it part of my relaxing and socializing routine. I found for me that it worked really well, I could feel relaxed and still join in the party atmosphere. I did not feel like I was missing out.

Now with the association of drinking and the increased risk of breast cancer, I will continue with my 'special' non-alcoholic drinks in the future. For me this works as a regular way of relaxing and feeling I'm having a little treat! I don't miss the actual alcohol it's just important for me to feel like I'm still having a special time with family or friends.

I do that too! Amazing how just having a wine glass in your hand can make you feel like you are part of the party! :)

i have had surgery and waiting for radiation; i must admit ive gone off wine and sweet things; and have read about alcohol use and link with breast cancer. so im thinking two glasses pw seems to 'right' for me -- which is down about 4-5 glasses pw for me
