Health Fund claim for wig

Interesting (mild word for the way I felt at the time) that the place I bought my wig from did not give me a proper tax receipt that has my name on it. They knew I was buying it because I am going to lose my hair through chemo. I asked them about whether I might be able to claim it on my health fund. They said that I should be able to get something back. Surely the experienced lady who served me would have know the awkward situation she was putting me in when I fronted up at my Health Fund, by NOT giving me a proper receipt! There is enough $^$@ happenning in my life to have to worry about this. I had gone to the trouble (and it was no trouble at all) to get a letter of authorisation from my oncologist to verify I needed the wig. GRRRRR

The Health Fund was great and gave me about 75% back I think it was.

I think this would be a good piece of information to give people who attend the "Look Good Feel Better" workshops.

  • tax invoice must have your name on it (cannot be hand written on afterwards)
  • need a letter of authorisation from doctor verifying you need the wig for medical reasons
