Pain management

I have been suffering terrible body pain particularly in my back and hips down into the legs. They started to put my on targin 5/2.5mg morning and evening. First days it seemed to help I felt normal and now two nights no sleep due to so much pain. I won’t be able to speak to my Dr until next week so I am not sure what to do or how to make it through. How am I suppose to fight cancer if I am already down due to pain? Any experiences with targin and pain?

Hi there
I was on Endone for 6 weeks after m mastectomy and then for a couple of weeks of radiotherapy I was on Targin ( last hitch is a related drug).
They both made me feel “ foggy” and I was glad to be off them.
Everyone reacts differently to pain and the different pain medications so I hope you can get some relief with the help of your medical team.

Targin is a slow release drug, Endone or oxycodone is the same, but not slow release. I have other medical conditions, which sometimes have me needing day and night long pain relief at a low to medium level of medication. My experience is that oral medication has peaks and valleys, and that I then get breakthrough pain. I was seen by the professor at the pain clinic of the large Sydney hospital where I'm under the care of a number of specialists. When I get these 'flares' I get put onto Fentanyl patches. They are only the pediatric strength and give a very slow, constant level of pain relief. When the flare passes, I stop using them. I've found that this regime of slow, constant relief works best for me. I hope your team finds a good solution for you too.0

When you say “your dr” are you meaning your oncologist ? If they’re “not available “ till next week, can you contact the GP - they should,be able to,help, out and contact oncologist urgently if they can’t resolve issues this week
OR do you have ability to speak to oncology ward staff at all ?
