RUN MELBOURNE

Afternoon my Pink friends :)

So, yesterday it was Run Melbourne & of course it was a chance for me to grab another medal so I was registered & even though, due to road works, the course was changed from 5km to 6km, I was there ready to go from early morning.

I wanted to watch my son finish the 1/2 Marathon, he was pacing one of our parkrun friends who was doing her first 1/2, her aim was to get sub 2hours 20minutes, they crossed the finish line looking not like they had just run 21km but like they had just been for a stroll in the park.

Myself, I ran the entire 6km, ya, go me!! I kept hearing my son say Mum, its mind over matter, there is no reason to walk, you dont hurt, you aren't out of breath... That was my longest run so far, very happy & now looking to increase slowly to be able to do a 10km event.

&... to top off a really good day, I met Hamish Blake who was also competing.....

For your boredom lol, I attach my favorite photos of the day.

    Congratulations,  you are truly amazing.  Are you still on Xeloda and do you have any side effects?

    @wendy_h67 yes I am still on Xeloda & I do have side effects though they are minimal because I found good ways to combat them.
    I found keeping the moisture up with my skin, sorbolene in the morning after shower & a QV oil bath at night (while I relaxe & read my latest trashy romance novel), wearing compression socks for my feet, no blisters etc (when I told the Onc that he was very interested, feels that it might be a way of helping others that suffer hand foot syndrome, he asked a lot of questions about it & was very interested they are dear though about $70 a pair but worth it to me)  & my hands are fine.
    Plus I am very stubborn & believe in mind over matter & stubbornly just outright refuse to suffer more severe side effects!! Just call me Xena :)

    @Ann-Marie_BCNA well done, a 1/2 is quite a feat in itself :) have you got a roller?? They are very useful after events for sore muscles & so you know for your next 1/2 :) compression socks are a must for recovery.

    I dont know how my son does 1/2's & he makes it look so easy...

     @Cate64   - you're a champion!  Woo hoo!

    @Ann-Marie_BCNA - woo hoo!  Good on you!
    Stretch, stretch and more stretch will help with the aching muscles.  I used to throw up at the end of each half and full marathon run otherwise I was fine - I had a very good coach who insisted on warm up and cool down stretching, something I still do today!  One of the other groups here the coach didn't believe in stretching so I guess it's what you are comfortable with!
    Plenty of water leading up to the race, during the race and afterwards helps with recovery.
    Congratulations as it is an exhilarating thing to do!
    Take care
