Finished all treatment back in June so we decided to take a holiday in our caravan, as I was feeling really well. We are staying at Nambucca Heads such a lovely spot. I have been experiencing pain in my ribs on the left side (lumpectomy on right breast) so took myself off to a local Dr who requested a chest X-ray, which came back clear. The pain continued but seemed more in my 'gut/stomach' area. The Dr requested a ultra sounds of the abdominal area.  All clear. So today I had a 'breath test' to see if the bacteria from my tummy is ok or not. I suffer from bad breath (very embrassing) and if that comes back positive I may have a pectic ulcer. Every test is such a worry. I'm so over going to the Drs and having test done.

We are not due back to Wollongong till early September so hope I can stay ok till we return.

Always thinking of ladies starting out with treatment. I would also like to thank all the lovely people who post on here. The site has been my biggest support over the last 12 months.

Hi Anne-Marie, Nambucca Heads sounds so beautiful and a wonderful place to holiday in. So sorry that you are experiencing pain. Once upon a time I worked as a medical secretary for a couple of gastro-enterologists and a standard treatment for ulcers is zantac tablets. Not sure if they interfere with other medications but thought I would let you know cause its a pretty simple treatment which controls the bacteria which cause the ulcer. Hopefully this helps ease your worries a bit. Let us know how you go at the drs, wishing you all the best and also for a continued beautiful holiday. Xx Cath

The test for H.pylori needs to be done before you start any medication otherwise you have to stop and wait 3 weeks before testing. You can take mylanta though.

Fantastic all other tests are normal.

This might help you understand what it might be.

Our poor bodies took a beating on chemo so it would not be a surprise to have an ulcer whether h.pylori cause or not.

    Enjoy your holiday.  Kath x

Sorry didn't want to imply you should start taking anything - just wanted you to know it was an easy treatment and non-invasive.

Thanks Cath. I did start on Gaviscon. Although the Dr did also write down Zantac tablets. I took the recommended dose of gaviscon last night and was very sick. I spoke to the pharmacist today, such a lovely lady, and she said because I'm small perhaps it was too strong so I cut back to two tablets today and I think it has helped.

Will let you know how I get on and in the meantime I will enjoy this beautiful place.
