Hi, I'm new and recently diagnosed, I am a Mum to a 6 year old girl. Off to have a wide excision tomorrow at the new Mater Springfield. Looking for other Mums around the area to talk to or anyone with tips on dealing with the wait between surgery and having a treatment plan in place. Not really sure where to start this journey as only diagnosed 5 days ago, so please feel free to provide me with any guidance you think I might need.

Your best bet is to speak to your breast care nurse at Mater & ask for support. I have been organising a ladies group that meet more centrally to Brisbane city. I usually post details on Brisbane -Gold Coast blog & South East Qld blog. When you are up and about maybe you can join in.

Take your treatment 1 day at a time. It can be a long journey but you will be surprised how strong it makes you! Don't be too hard on yourself, take the time to relax and heal both physically and mentally.

    Dianne.

Thanks Dianne, surgery went well, I got in contact with a McGrath nurse and she is coming to visit tomorrow as the hospital is not yet set up with a Breast care nurse. May look at your groups as I progress.

    thanks for replying.

    Hi Christel,

One book that I have found very useful and calming is called "Breast Cancer- Taking Control" by John Boyages- he breaks down the different treatment options and explains things in simple terms- just when you can feel like you are getting rushed down a certain treatment path, this book can make you realise you have time to stop and decide things yourself.

Best of luck with your treatment,

    Helen
