I went to the workshop this morning and i would highly recommend it. There was 7 of us and 4 volunteers so very personal and hands on.

Workshop was for around 2.5 hours but we did finish a little later as we took a while with out makeup :)

We each were given a little makeup station area where we systematically used the products and then when finished we took all of them home.

So we started with cleansing, toning, the importance of wearing sunscreen, foundation, eyeshadow, eyebrows, mascara, blush - we were all ready to go out on the town after we were done.

Its fantastic to also see all the products that were donated. We each ended up with Cleanser, Toner, Sun Screen, 2 foundations, 2 lipsticks, blush, eye liner, eyebrow pencil, mascara. Id say there was at least $200 - $300 of value in the products alone as many were high end brands such as Clinique, Estee Lauder, Loreal, Benefit

Some things i took away was

1. using a cream cleanser than foaming or gel ones as they are less drying

2. the importance of sunscreen, high SPF, to be put on after cleansing and before moisturizing

3. Benefit who are know for their products for Brows, have a great kit which has stencils, eyebrow gels etc for when your eyebrows need some special attention

After our makeup section we had morning tea.

Later we were shown creative ways with scarves and hats and given pamphlets on where to buy them.

The last part of the morning was a lady coming from Creative Wigs to explain the different styles of wigs and a few ladies volunteered to be models, which was a little fun to see whats possible. All wigs she had were synthetic and they did look very convincing. She felt that synthetic wigs had come a long way in the last 10 years and that there was no need to spend the extra money on a real hair wig.

Id highly recommend it, even if your not a makeup person, its a nice few hours of "Me" time and having a chat and meeting some ladies that are going through the same thing as yourself.

I went to one today too but there would have been 20 of us and about 15 volunteers. We never moved from our seats as the volunteers ferried drinks and nibblies to us.

    Hi Angie

I also went to a session on Monday. I concur what a wonderful day out - no matter how tired I was! I had such fun. I myself don't usually wear much makeup (being a busy mum to young boys plus my job (when I was working :( ) was as an engineer on a industrial gas production site - thus not really much call for it! But the tips on eyebrows, eye-shaping, suncreen etc were invaluable.

The wigs were a hoot! And I think I've found my post chemo style once I have hair again (I"ve already been told I should stay with short hair rather than go back to my long).

    Absolutely worthwhile doing

    Em xx

What was the right sunscreen for chemo skin Angie? It didn't turn up for our session so they just wombled about it needing to be 25 to 50% and left it at that. No recommendations of what was good.

They recommended the milk sprays for the head, like the baby milk etc from pharmacies to our group - they said once you had it on (even face etc) wait 15mins, then blot any excess as what had absorbed would be what you needed.

Remembering the skin on your head is "virgin"as is any regrowth so treat it like you would a babies skin/hair.

    Hope this helps

Yes they did not quote certain brands but felt the cancer council ones where good and they had to have at least spf50. Also needs to be put on after cleansing and to let it absorb for 15 minutes before then using a moisturiser.

Bit of a shame I can't get a whole new face with no wrinkles but that would fall into the miracle category I think lol.
