Hi Everyone

I thought I would let you know about a clinical trial opening soon for women who wish to have a baby after breast cancer. The trial is called POSITIVE and will open in November in Western Australia.

The researchers, led by breast surgeon Professor Christobel Saunders, are recruiting young women who wish to interrupt their hormone therapy (ie tamoxifen) to have a baby. The trial is currently only available at St John of God Hospital, Subiaco, Western Australia, but will recruit young women from around WA. They are also looking to add new sites in other states.

To be eligible you must be aged between 18 and 42, have been receiving hormone therapy for between 18 and 30 months for early breast cancer, and wish to become pregnant.

The study involves stopping tamoxifen for 2 years to attempt pregnancy. Participation will involve brief 3-monthly clinic visits, blood samples that are collected at 3, 6 and 12 months, and a pelvic ultrasound performed at 3 and 6 months. There are also some optional questionnaires the researchers would like you to complete.
