Triple negative result

I was diagnosed with breast cancer on 12 July. Lumpectomy on 23 July. Resulting in a triple negative diagnosis. Margins weren't clear enough so back in for more surgery. Port put in a couple of weeks later and had my first FEC chemo on 23 August. I have to admit I was a little concerned to say the least with the triple negative result. Would love to hear from anyone else in the same situation. Linda.

  • My 1st AC was a nightmare....but my oncologist hooked me up with a better mix of meds for the remaining 3 treatments. Mouth ulcers, throat ulcers, sore bum, headache & the smell of the muck coming out of my skin was gross! I didn't shower for 2 days, I just couldn't get out of bed. I thought I was prepared for what chemo would bring, but you never really are. I've been told that my next lot of chemo will be a lot easier to handle & that I won't even need nausea medication at home.....my fingers are crossed!

I shaved my head the week before chemo started, I did it for the Worlds Greatest Shave, we raised $5697!!! I shaved down to a level 2. By day 14 it really started falling out. I have a smooth mellon now & am quite fond of it, it was long & black. Body hair is pretty much all gone & I'm liking that for summer too :)

My next few months are filled with 3 Plastic Seurgon appointments & weekly chemo, the new year will bring the surgeries, then June/July school holidays we've booked a trip to Disneyland. The kids need a holiday fromthis just as much as I do.

I didn't mention my temper....it's terrible for the 1st week, I really have to watch what I say & ignore everything going on around me.

    Be well, Sam xoxox

  • Hi Leanne Since my first chemo another lady on this site recommended the same thing with the ice. I'm going to take some half frozen water bottles next time. My mouth is SO sore in one area in particular - it just doesn't seem to be getting better no matter what I try. I'm worried I will end up with an infection from it. They did give me anti nausea meds. And my oncologist prescribed Maxalon for post chemo. Were you not nauseous at all on FEC? Linda X
  • Hi Linda - I also had mouth ulcers on FEC and it wasn't until my 3rd of 6 rounds another lovely woman told me to ask for ice to suck on before and during treatment on chemo day. It helped my mouth and tongue.  Did they give you anti nausea meds ?   All the best  Leanne  Xx

  • Hi Sam You're right. It is quite a shock!! And the diagnosis is just the beginning of a whirlwind of appointments with one doctor after another. I too have just completed my first round of chemo - FEC. I have three of those then switch to TC for another 3. Well that's the plan at this stage anyway. The nausea kicked in about an hour and a half after I got home from chemo. I was that unwell I didn't even have the stamina to shower the next day - and that's not like me at all. I've been hit with the dreaded mouth ulcers even though I've been diligent with the salt water and cleaning of my teeth all the time. I've also had a headache for nearly 3 days now. I've noticed a lot of hair in my brush in the last 24 hours so think my hair loss has begun. :-( I'm dreading that to say the least. How was your first chemo treatment for you? Take care Linda xx
  • Hi Linda, I was diagnosed in June 2011 with triple negative BC....had 4 rounds of Chemo then under went a diep-flap bilateral prophelatic mastectomy with breast reconstruction which to 9 hours..I have since had reconstructions done of the nipple 3 months after that & now I have just had my first nipple tattooing done and I'm due to go back & have it done touched up next month.

Anyway there is a specific group on here for TNBC sufferer's it is extremely helpful & supportive.  I hope this will help you to fine the group.

    Brightest Blessings,

    Susan Schuback.
