I had my surgery Monday. The Dr had to take out a bigger area then he had thought but is confident he got what he needed to. Pain was quite bad and stayed in overnight to get on top of it. Back home now and feeling pretty bruised and battered. Tired most of the time so resting up all the time. Now to wait for the results to see what path I'm on from here. Thank you everyone for your words so far and for sharing your stories. It makes it that little easier when there are people you know that understand where your at physically and emotionally. Shaylee, Glad to hear that you are back home and recuperating. I ended up waiting two weeks after surgery for my pathology results as they weren't ready the first week and it was some of the hardest waiting I've ever done. Try and concentrate on doing things that are enjoyable and relaxing. Hoping for you that your results are as good as can be. Xx

Fingers and toes crossed for a good result., rest while you can

Amazing how tired we get after surgery. But rest up when you need to and regukar pain relief. Hope all goes well with results and treatment plan is soon in place.

The longer they take with the preliminary results the better. Mine came back in less than a week with a node positive report and I had to have surgery again 3 weeks later. Rest up and don't neglect the exercises your breast nurse or physio advise; you will be better for it. <3

Hi Shaylee....glad your surgery is over with.....the ladie's have given you some great advice....meanwhile, rest and do those excercises! ..... and try not to think too far ahead.....It's quite confonting to see your scars at first, but eventually I'm hoping you (like me) will look at them and be proud of them......they are a reminder of how resiliient we are! Never be ashamed of a scar for it simply means you are stronger than what tried to hurt you! Wishing you all the best for your results and impending treatment plan (whatever that may be) Xx

One year after surgery and I am only now being able to accept the scars as mine and normal now. It will take time and often is overwhelming.

Agree with Socoda Melclarity and Share...

Totally normal reaction - I had and continue to have moments as I was healthy fit and active prior to diagnosis. To see my "new" body now is hard to look at - the mental side of things takes a while to come to terms with...I let the tears out at times wondering where the old me went?

No point being brave and strong for everyone else all the time - as a woman we need to be able to show our vulnerability and fragility and lean on others when necessary that's where the other ladies on this site understand what we are feeling and going through helps a lot and makes us feel less alone through this whole ordeal.

Hi @Shaylls - I can only agree with Socoda and Melclarity.
Some days it can hit you like a brick and it may be either a visual or a mental thing that can set you off - perfectly normal !!
Given that prior to your diagnosis you were not sick and so the shock of diagnosis, surgery and follow up treatment can be so overwhelming.
We think that we are able to prepare ourselves for what our "new" bodies might look like but nothing can prepare us for the reality.
It may come after the dressing first comes off, in the shower, in a change room at a department store, trying on a favourite outfit that used to fit perfectly .....

I'm with Socoda!!!! Ive been down this road twice in 5yrs and honestly, feel the same...its mindblowing psychologically when you weren't sick or unwell to begin with...yet you go through the trauma of surgery, specialists, results, treatment etc., Absolutely normal!!! yes there will be many moments like that, it can be overwhelming, you are human, so just make sure you have people you can talk to. I didnt have alot of support just a few and my Breast Care nurse was wonderful and removed from my life which was better. Loved ones care and want to help, but unfortunately its sooo hard as they just dont have the understanding on every level what youre going through. Hugs xoxoxo Melinda

Most certainly is okay!! It can seem so surreal. Tests done, results delivered, surgery then bandages all with never having felt ill!!!! It's totally bizarre. I still feel like I was never sick let alone with cancer. So cry away, get comfort, (hopefully no crying headache), throw in some chocolate for good measure and know that it's perfectly normal and your okay. Big hug. Xx

Had a moment this morning in the shower. Took down my dressings and started to have an anxiety attack. Felt really overheated and like I couldn't breathe and felt nauseous. I think it was seeing the surgery aftermath in whole that did it. Made it all seem so much more real. Got out and sat down and had a cry and phoned a friend. I think I need to be aware that I'll have moments like that throughout this and that its ok.

Hi Shaylee, there is nothing like the comfort of your own bed (or home).
Hope you are able to rest comfortably and get that elusive sleep/comfort routine happening ! Analgesics are a saviour sometimes, don't be afraid to use them regularly as they really do help your recovery.
Easier said than done, but try not to expend too much energy on worrying about the outcome (I know) but focus simply on recovering your strength.
