Hello Everyone!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Donna. Im 23yrs old. Last month i had surgery on my right breast to remove 6 lumps. I had biopsy's done earlier in the year and they came back as fibroadenomas but given their size my surgeon thought best to remove them.

When i went to my post op appointment my surgeon informed me 5 of the 6 lumps were phyllodes tumors. She now wants to do a second operation to remove the surrounding tissue. I also have 5 lumps in my left breast that she wants to remove aswell as the surrounding tissue. My doctor is also sending me to a genetisist .

I think my best option is to have a double masectomy/reconstruction. I joined this website to hear other peoples opinions, stories and experiences. So please feel free to contact me :)

  • Hi Donna, I have had a double mastectomy and reconstruction with implants, and have had no regrets. However, I was 53 when I did this and it was still a huge decision. I have seen some really good reconstructions done where scars are barely visible, because the surgeons have gone in around the nipple, or under the breast. These two I am talking about were done on very young woman, and the results were amazing. If you do go down this pathway, try and get a few opinions from a couple of plastic surgeons to see who can do what. They should all have before and after photos to show you. All the best with your decision making. Love Chris xx
  • Hey Mich and Janey, Thank you for your support and advice :) I appreciate it alot. My gut is telling me to have the mastectomy. I first got the lumps when I was sixteen and as time went on they just kept multiplying and growing. Ive always worried about them and when the doc told me they were just fobroadenomas I still never felt at ease with that result. My thinking is to that I am so young and have the rest of my life ahead of me. I dont want spend all that time worrying and having biopsy's and ultrasounds and surgerys. Especially when you cant really trust the biopsy's anyway. Another thing is these tumors are so rare and not enough research has been done on them. Wishing you both all the best on your journeys. Sending all my love to you both. Keep smiling :) Donna xx
  • Hi Donna, You poor darling. Even at 54 I am having a tough time deciding whether to have a double mastectomy so I can't begin to imagine making these decisions at such a young age. All the very best if luck Donna. I'm crossing my fingers for you. Lots of love and hugs Janey xxx

  • Hey Donna

Welcome to BCNA and I am glad that you wanted to share the situation you have found yourself in with us.

Personally I feel that if you go to the genetisist and find you have the gene then that will definitely make that decision for you sweety.

If you don't have the gene that will be wonderful news for you and your family.  You will then have to decide whether you are happy to live with the fear of BC becoming a possibility.  You will have to ask yourself if you can live with that fear.

It is a tough place you have found yourself in you poor luv and when so young.

I am unable to comment on mastectomy and reconstruction but just wanted to wish you well and let you know I am thinking of you.

Wishing you all good news and an easy decision making.

    Lots of love, Mich xoxoxo
