Hello again

It's taken me almost a year now to finally navigate my way back to this site. My story -short version- diagnosed 24/4/13 with grade 3 IDC stage 3a TNBC right breast, tumour 3.2x5.7cm. Lumpectomy 9/5/13, chemo TAC June til October, joined the exclusive club of BRCA 2 mutants in July '13. Subsequently had skin and nipple sparing bilateral mastectomy, Dec 11th & tissue expanders placed. Am currently in hospital recovering from hysterectomy (prophylactic due to BRCA positive). That's the short version lol! Hopefully I find my way back here again, so I can chat to some off you lovely kind ladies. Laree xx
  • Hi Laree,

what  journey! I have been recently diagnosed so still spinning. I am due to start chemo next week to try to shrink my tumour but it is likely I will need a mastectomy.

I was wondering who did your nipple skin sparing mastectomy and what your experience has been with recovery and everything?

I do hope it is all going well for you.

  • Your surgery was clearly much bigger than mine - I do hope your pain meds have kicked in and you are getting some relief and aren't too sore.

I am not in Tassie - sorry - if I was there we would definitely meet up for a coffee (or green tea!)  We can still chat online though, which is the great thing about this site.  Take care, Michelle xx

  • Hi Michelle, Lovely to hear from you. I had my complete hysterectomy on Wednesday via open procedure as I have a paralysed right diaphragm ( no idea how it happened) and that made laparoscopic hysto impossible. I am doing ok. Very sore today as they took my PCA away yesterday. Still juggling pain meds ATM trying to find a happy medium. I'll be so glad when this is overs then I'll have tissue expander to implant exchange and we are all done! Where in Tassie are you Michelle? I'm in Hobart.... Laree xx

  • I am TNBC too, and had bilateral mastectomies and then hysterectomy a year before you did.  I hope you recover quickly, too - after the first few days it's hard to remember not to lift things because you feel practically normal again - just a bit of a tummy ache.  We are so lucky they can do things laparoscopically now.

I was also Stage 3 when diagnosed, and did the chemo-radiation road, which finished for me at the end of 2012.  It was just the 2nd anniversary of surgery this month, and I wanted to tell you that life has pretty much returned to normal and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Although I was always fit and healthy, I take extra care now with diet and exercise, and luckily have a wonderful husband who backs me up in all of it.

I hope you are home soon and feeling 100% better.  Take care.  Michelle xx
