Advice please...
Hi everyone. Am newly diagnosed (2 weeks) and have a few questions. A routine mammogram has got me here with the details that a biopsy has found cancer cells. A visit to the specialist didnt tell me anymore information other than I need to have the breast off. Pathology will then tell me what I have and treatment needed. Is this normal? I thought I would know what type of cancer I had, aggressive or not, stage etc before surgery and not after???
Also, specialist only recommends having the one off. When questioning him he says their is a slightly increased risk of it coming back in the 2nd breast. I would love to hear from others who have had to make the decision of one or two off and how they came to that decision. At this point in time i am thinking of having both off so that I wont worry about it coming back but would love to hear what others have to say. Thanks in advance.

- ChixonMemberI am looking forward to speaking to the oncologist and to have a plan.....to go forward. I feel that I have been 'waiting' for so long and not really knowing what I am dealing with. My surgeon said to me that it may be only in my sentinel nodes, that he could have got it all...(having taken them out)..but the risk is...there is a good chance it is in my ancilliary nodes . and I need to do Chemo. .All my best wishes on your journey.. I hope it continues to go well for you..as you say it will be worth it in the end. Stay strong. Hugs.xx.

Hi Chris. Am approaching the half way mark in my chemo journey. I probably expected worse than what I am experiencing which is good. I am on a 21 day cycle and that first week after chemo I am in bed sleeping or lying around resting for most of the week. I havent had any sickness/vomiting till this week (3rd cycle) but my daughter was also sick so we dont know if we had a bug or mine was chemo and hers was a bug. I am given anti nausea pills so I ended up taking them and have been fine. I have one more 21 day cycle then move on to a different drug which will be 12 weekly cycles so I dont know what to expect for that. I keep telling myself short term pain equals long term gain and every day is one day closer to the end of this journey. Like you said, everyone tolerates chemo differently and the drugs vary too between different cases. I hope you manage yours well.

- ChixonMemberHome from hospital today!! My double mastectomy was surprisingly pain free...felt 'sore'...but only required Panadol . The drains were more uncomfortable ..I was very pleased to have them removed. I have my appointment with my surgeon for the Path results on Friday...so it will be good to know what the results are. Best wishes to all.xxx

The waiting was hard. I did my best to put it out of my mind and carry on as normal. Someone said to me worrying will make no difference to the outcome and that was so true and I tried to embrace that, but we worry none the less. This sight is great to post questions on and actually helped me make some decisions based on the advise of others who have 'been there and done that'.
- ChixonMemberTrying to keep 'good' thoughts. I have my double mastectomy on the 27th June...it is just the waiting that is hard...waiting for surgery and then for the Path. Results. It is such a great network to voice concerns. What great people you are..lots of luck to all. Chris. XX.
