TC Chemotherapy
Had Round 3 of TC chemo on Monday morning. Bone aches arrived like clockwork on Thursday night, but now on Friday, I seem to have lower back pain and hip pain for the first time as well. Is this normal? I have been walking 1.5 - 2 kms each day this week.
I am finding the variety, and variance, of side effects, to be weird. For example, Round 1, a little nausea, Round 2, a lot, Round 3, none so far.

- jewel-eeMember7% is 7% @Zoffiel - especially twice around the chemo merry-go-round.
what are the side effects you are still struggling with? Jxx - jewel-eeMemberthx @Kiwi Angel if the dex doesn't help I will ask my onc about zoffran.
I picture us all as circus performers juggling medication not balls lol
Jxx - Kiwi_AngelMember@jewel-ee I found zoffran really good for my nausea when it was bad the other day and it also has the side effect of possible constipation which may not be a bad thing for u. Good luck on Friday - I will be thinking of u xoxoxoox.
The medication thing really is a juggling act isn’t it - I will just be a pro at it and it will all be over. - jewel-eeMemberthank you @Zoffiel @Kiwi Angel and @kmakm - just what i was looking for - a range of views that I can't necessarily consider from within my limited scope atm.
the 5% is really good but with no guarantees and that's where I figure I'm halfway through....
I'm committed to this friday and my onc has suggested this cycle continuing the dex (at the daily minimum poss) until side effects ease. And also using valium as needed - which helped but I am very cautious of overdoing valium. He is also adding an older anti nausea med prior to the infusion to see if that helps.
I also switched from stemetil to maxalon halfway through this cycle but he told me that the maxalon can exacerbate diarrhoea if it is already a side effect. so I will now ditch the maxalon! It is a juggling act.
And I can also re consider cycle no 4 when the time comes.
much appreciated everyone - Jules xxxxx - kmakmMember@jewel-ee Must have been good to hear your ki67 was so low! Mine was 18%.
I'm like @"Kiwi Angel", having set out on a course of action I to complete it. But we are all different! I suppose the questions are more or less the same as they were at the start of chemotherapy. The difference is now chemo is a known quantity, as is your quality of life during treatment. Is the short term pain worth the long term gain?
For me what it would come down to is the what ifs. If I did get a recurrence (and I know there are no guarantees no matter how much you throw at it), would I torture myself with the 'what if I'd completed the chemo' question. I know I would so I'd grit my teeth and finish it.
Good luck with your decision. Let us know how you get on. K xox - ZoffielMember
Well, that is welcome news delivered a bit too late. If you had those figures a few months ago it may have been a different story as far as committing to chemo. For me, dealing with the long term effects of TC has been a struggle, but my circumstances as a two time cancer loser are a little different from most peoples. TC only gave me a 7% better chance of survival this time which sounds meagre, unless you are one of the seven who gets some benefit and lives.
You are half way, if you can't stand it, stop. But you are half way and I don't know that stopping now is going to make much difference to the amount of damage the drugs do. Maybe yes, maybe no. You are the only one who can make the decision. Uncomfortable as it may be. Good luck. marg xx
- Kiwi_AngelMember@jewel-ee I think my result was 15%. My Oncologist said she would of been happy whether I decided to have chemo or not to and I decided to cause I’d my age and chance of recurrence. My first TC was quite unpleasant, the second was pretty ok and the 3rd which I had just over a week ago was pretty crap (excuse the pun) cramps, nausea, diarohhea and joint pain. I just keep thinking her I only have one more to go. It’s obviously a hard decision for u as u have felt like this right from the beginning. I would see it through to the end just cause I’m stubborn and want to finish what I start but u have to thin of your quality of life too. If your oncologist feels that the benefits are limited and he is ok with u finishing now u really have to do what is right for u. Glad that u r starting to feel better u poor thing xoxoxo
- jewel-eeMemberI had my oncologist appt today and he gave me the results of my ki67 test which was 5%. And while he said that the % can be a reflection of only that part of the tumour that was tested he believes i have a low risk of re-occurrence of BC. Given how difficult my experiences with chemo have been (wt loss, on-going nausea/cramps and diarrhoea) he has given me the option of finishing my course early if I am unable to tolerate. He would prefer me to complete - 2 more cycles to go - but this has given me a sense of control and hope back. I am only starting to come out of the 2nd cycle now and no 3 is due on friday.
It's given me a lot to think about. I would appreciate your thoughts and ideas.
Jxxx - Kiwi_AngelMember@Finch. I have been the same this cycle and have felt quite down this time - I think it is the frustration of just turning into s giesnt useless blob for a couple of days even though I know it’s what my body needs. Only 1 more to go thank god and I will be throwing every pill in my pill bag at it!! We r a tough bunch - chemo is hard on u emotionally too which isn’t in the list of side effects. Hope u r feeling better. Xoxox
- FinchMemberHi all, I've been a bit quiet .... big fatigue, loss of concentration and a lot of staring into space. All the general aches and pains, complete loss of taste and awful mouth and what ever else I can't remember right now.. I've hunkered down and kept to myself, although we did have family visit today and what concentration I did have left was kept busy with that.
im so pleased that this is my third treatment and I only have one more to go . So pleased I'll be feeling better by next week.
To everyone out there on chemo, done chemo , going to start chemo ....... hats off to you. We are a strong bunch. It's very much doable but sometimes it gets you down .
