Taxole - Pain

My first post - 4 x rounds of AC and have had my first Taxole treatment.  Have had lots of aches and pain in muscles and bones, didn't really expect this result, has anyone else experienced similar?

  • I didn't have neulasta shots on taxole as my wcc stayed good  but got awful arthralgia pain. The neulasta pain for me felt like getting the flu where you hurt everywhere and especially my neck and back. The pain from taxol was diffetent and I had pain in the front of thigh muscles towards the end that made it difficult to stand on those days. Exercise on day 3 made it worse do I stopped and rested. And then tried to do hydro pool walking day 4 and 5.
  • I'm interested to know how many of you are/were also getting a Neulasta shot. I get the muscle pain from day three which I attribute to the chemo and then the bone pain kicks in on days 4 and 5. It's very different from muscle aches-- quite exquisite and my bones pulse in time with my heartbeat.
  • Hi Renee
I have just finished 12 weeks of taxol and gas joint muscle and bone pain from week 7 onwards. I took Panadol osteo morning and night every day and exercised every day which both seemed to help ease the pain. Symptoms worse when sitting for long periods so tired to move around every hour.....

  • Hey Renee! I had 8 Taxol in total and unfortunately was unlucky enough to suffer all 3 severe symptoms of Taxol in terms of pain, muscle, nerve and joint pain. It didnt ease until end of treatment, so I had no relief as the week wore on before I had to face another infusion. There was nothing that combated my pain either as was drug sensitive and unable to take pain killers. So Nurofen  and Panadol osteo together but it didnt touch the sides. Hang in there! I know its tough! I also have slight neuropathy in my feet but hey I can live with it! xo Melinda
  • Thanks for your guidance.  Will indeed speak with DR about side effects.
  • Hi Renee73. Like @primek I normally get the ache on day 3 post Taxol. It normally last for 48hrs. I find panadol and heat packs are enough but have been told if it gets too unbearable they would give me something stronger. Some weeks are better than others. They do say gentle exercise is good. Xx
  • I got them each time on the afternoon of day 3. By round 6 it was bad enough I needed tramadol and panadol for it. (Can't stomach endone)  then mysteriously by round 11 no more pain. Can't explain it. I just rested on that day and I took pain relief. I was quite miserable with it but it only lasted 1 day for me.
  • Hi Renee73, I have had 4 AC & 10 rounds of Taxol so far. I didn't experience severe bone pain & aches until round 5 & then after that they were mild each time until now. Last night was very uncomfortable with aching all night & today but now all gone & I didn't take anything.  I did have acupuncture tonight & that always makes me feel better generally. Also exercising helps.  It is so unpredictable but I think normal too.  It should only last for 24 to 36 hours. If you are worried you should speak to your oncologist.
