tamoxifen

Hi All
I've been taking tamoxifen since March 2015, when i first started taking it my emotions were all over the place and I cried all the time and the hot flushes and broken sleep nearly drove me crazy!! Thankfully all that seems to have settled down or I am just used to it, but  now I am having muscle pain especially in my hips and lower back and petrified that my breast cancer has metastasized to my bones. I spoke to my Doctor about this and she said its a common side effect of taking Tamoxifen, I don't know how i'm supposed to know if i need to be concerned or not. Was wondering if anyone else has the same side effects

  • Thanks for your replies Socoda, Melclarity and Chanel has put my mind at ease. You would think that after going through, Chemo, bilateral mastectomy, radiation and breast reconstruction this would be over ,at least that's what everyone else thinks! It's only others that have been through this journey that truly understand it's never really over. Wishing you all good health and happiness
  • I've already been thru menopause and have had hot flashes back since taking tamoxifen . Joint pain is a common side effect so don't worry too much I know it's easier said than done Jussylee. I stressed over taking it but can't take the other meds because of thinning bones. listen to your doctor, they know all about Tamoxifen. It has been used for over 50 years. I hope this helps, sending hugs to you xo
  • Hi Jussylee,

I took Tamoxifen for 4yrs, had no side effects that were noticeable at all, definitely no hot flushes or pain. I had a recurrence and further treatment last year and am now on Arimidex, and have massive side effects, horrendous joint pain on this. Hot flushes I dont believe are attributed to the medication though, its purely been thrown into menopause as I had them through Chemo because of this.

If youre having your yearly checkups, I wouldnt be concerned, obviously if the pain persists or worsens mention it to your GP. Melinda xo
  • Hi Jussylee, I have only been on tamoxifen for around 4 months and have only this week suffered from lower back pain and pain around my left ovary. I don't know if its the tamoxifen or me going into menopause but certainly not pleasant.
